S03's or F1's
#1
Hi all,
I've a simple question - I need new tyres and have a local shop offering me a choice, either Eagle F1's at £81 inc vat and fitting or SO3's at £100 inc vat and fitting.
The general opinion on the board seems to be good for both, so do I pay the extra and get the SO3's...?
Help!

and
within the next couple of weeks i will be putting 225/40/18 S03's on my 01 but then again i think Bridgestone make the best road tyres, so i would use them
Personal preference again

I didn't like F1s at all, they had a very nasty tendency to loose grip with a snap when overheated....and they didn't give that much grip in the dry either...understeering...
They were stunning in the wet mind U.
/J - loves his proxes

Now you tell me I've got Proxes on at the moment, and will have F1s put on on Saturday. I'll let you know what I think once they're run in (which will be a few weeks though! D'oh!).

F1's are soft and their sidewalls are'nt very ridgid, nice pretty pattern though and pretty good in the wet but useless in the dry
I have never had 16"s so i don't know but if you can get hold of some S02's(theres still some about) i would choose them

Recently had 4 F1 DS fitted, 400+ miles on them and I have as much confidence in them as I did my SO2's. And they are *very* good in the wet. Went through two HUGE puddles (lakes ) and the steering didn't twitch.
Have also done some fairly high speed driving on the motorway with standing water and again brilliant.
My cornering speeds are just as quick and have had no understeer problems. And a couple of times over the weekend if they didn't understeer then, I can't see it happening in the future. (Believe me I tried)
On a couple of corners my mate couldn't believe my entry and exit speeds. (I won't mention corner degrees or speeds as I'll probably get flamed.) Although I am trying to drive it better. Slightly slower in and nail it at the apex.
In the end I couldn't justify the extra cost of the SO3's for what is a weekend car and the F1's fitted the bill. Paul Habgood's write up finally clinched it for me.
