Default TDO5 18G

Hello everyone, as the title suggests is anyone running this turbo?
What power does your car produce?
Do you suffer from any lag?
Or is the spool up as standard?
What mods do you run with this set up?
are you running standard gearbox?

Sorry for all the questions but if you don't ask. Looking to upgrade my injectors and turbo. The car is running a spec C bottom end FMIC, full de-cat, air filter and a power FC. I had the car on a dyna-pac last year it was running 296bhp ATW. Although the turbo and injectors where maxed out at 1.43 bar of boost. So the next step is to have them replaced, I don't want to rebuild the bottom end and reliability is a must. So I am putting the feelers out to se what you guys would recommend as to the turbo.

Thanks

Bohnjegley

Excellent turbo and well happy with the way my car is. Still has every day manners (apart from the pops n' bangs ) but on full throttle is just awesome!!!

Yours classic/newage?

I went for the 18g over the 20g after a long debate. As the 18g is quicker in real world terms. To maximise the benefits of the 20g you need to be at the very top end.

Over a remapped VF35 (330bhp) i was surprised by the spool up. I was expecting nothing...nothing...rocketship, but like standard. BUT...It seemed better low down. I don't know whether that was a combination of going to 3" and induction kit too.

My gauges come tomorrow, so don't know exact boost profile. But it's generally around 3000-3100 1 bar and full boost by 3400.

Car made 370/340 on VPower, next run peaked at 406, but average was 392/361. (extra came from running 3mls/L of NF)

Setup:
APS 70mm CAIK + Cold air Feed
18g
Wrapped/Ported headers & up-pipe
H&S true 3" downpipe wrapped
Meercat 3" dragger
3 port boost solenoid
NGK7's
Walbro 255 pump
Standard g/box & clutch

Think that's about it. Cracking real world turbo.

Thanks Gazthehat

The car is a STI V4 Type R,
Are you running a FMIC or TMIC?
Sounds like a great set up then, I was also thinking of fitting the headers at the same time and have the whole lot remapped,

Cheers

I'm running TMIC. It is more than efficient for this setup. Not so sure about the STi ones though. Go ask in General Technical. Think it maybe a STi8 TMIC & parts, scoop etc, or then FMIC.

If your making 296bhp ATW now you'll not see much more out of a 18g.

What turbo is that on?

I was about to say that. 30% Transmission losses put that around the top end of an 18gs range doesn't it?

Next step up would be a hybrid from Lateral performance or similar!

How does a car loose 30% power through the transmission. Do you have a link to show this. Surely the only way to correctly calculate transmission loss would be on each specific car as drive line components get a lot of stick so I would assume that each car would be different. If you where to remove the engine and then have it dynoed, replace in the car and then dyno again only then could you correctly quote a percentage. As I said ATW because the car did a run on a DYNA-PACK with the dyno bolted to the hubs not on a rolling road, my mistake I should have said ATH, sorry

IHIVF..should be followed by two numbers.

Didn't the dyna-pack give you figures at the flywheel too?
