People, can anybody help??
My handbrake light is stayin on!!, it was intermittent at at first (sometimes it would go out when i released the handbrake) i have checked the switch and it makes no difference (connected or not/on or off).
i also took off my rear discs, the handbrake shoes are fine??
does this light come on for any other reason???
Thanks
Rob

All of the above advise is wrong
The light also serves to let you know that your brake fluid level is low. If it is on permanently, the fluid is VERY LOW and must be topped up immediately.
Pad wear will cause the fluid level to drop, but it if it has got this low I would check the brake system for leaks.
If the level is OK, it could just be that the float has stated to leak and no longer er... floats.

Also check that the rubber diaphgram is correctly fitted to the cap,as the fluid gets low the rubber diaphgram gets sucked into the master cylinder and then it rests on the fluid level switch causing the light to come on.

The fluid went low on mine (The light was on), so i filled it up, the light stayed on but this was only because the float sticks. Take the top off tap the float a few times and see if the light goes off, mine did.

I had this before. Checked the switch, cured it for a while. Turned out the rear brake shoes were dead, new set, no probs.
Personally think it's the white 'bob' in the fluid resivour, as mine has stuck a few times, thus causing the light to come on.

Ok, book states this!
Brake fluid level warning!
This light comes on when the brake fluid level has dropped to near the MIN level of the brake fluid reservoir with the ignition switch in the ON position and with the parking brake fully released.
If the brake system warning light should come on while driving (with the parking brake fully released and with the ignition switch position in ON), it could be an indictation of leaking of brake fluid or worn brake pads. Have your vehicle checked by a SUBARU dealer immediately.
You may well find that if you have a brake fluid leak it takes time (as it did with my astra van) and will be intermittant rather than stay on all the time unless its severe in which case your going to be dripping fluid
Get it checked out by a dealer/speciallist
