Default ABS Fault Light

Had an intermittent fault light which I thought was a sticking handbrake switch. Light now stays on so I suspect it's an ABS fault as checked handbrake switch and it's fine. Any ideas what this could be before I start looking in all the wrong places?

Could be wheel speed sensors... Not sure on the scooby setup, but it's a common fault on Astras and Corsas. Either the castellated ring on the CV joint corrodes, or the wiring to the sensor fails... I'm guessing the scoob has a similar setup, although I'd welcome any corrections.

which light is on ? the sticking handbrake switch would bring on a different light to the ABS light, thats the only reason I ask.

It's the same light as the handbrake light when the handbrake is applied, hence the confusion thinking it was the handbrake.

Thanks Frenchwood, that gives me a place to start.

If its the handbrake light and not the abs light then I don't think your problem will be the abs side of things have you checked the fluid level?

As stated bud, if its definitely the handbrake light, then it's likely that its fluid level, or a sticking float/sensor in the fluid reservoir.

Fluid levels are fine so I'll check float sensor then onto wheel speed sensor if necessary.

I cant see a ABS ring bringing up a low level, handbrake on warning, sorry your looking at the wrong circuit to fix,
remove the handbrake switch and make safe, see if this stops the error, then you can do the same with the fluid res float switch, does your year of car have wear indicators on the pads ?

It's an 03 and no it doesn't have wear indicators. I'm guessing it needs plugging in to a diagnostic to see exactly what the fault is.

If its ABS error and if you want to check the error code, please have look on this guide

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=192583

Usually ABS rings can be dirty or yours hubs can be damaged, this can cause those problems

Check for errors and you will see what error you have there
