Default RCM GRP reverse bonnet scoop

So i've been looking at getting a reverse bonnet scoop for a while now and have had difficulty with the wide variety and lack of availability. I looked a few months back at the RCM ones but recall them saying they were no longer making them. Just browsing the RCM site and noticed this:

http://www.rogerclarkmotorsport.co.u...?productID=826

Unfortunately no pics so i've absolutely no idea what style it is so wondering if any of you guys have pictures of RCM's version on your car

Thanks in advance

Why'd you want one? Scoobs are about scoops.

1) Aero efficieny
2) Under bonnet heat extraction

As much as i do love the scoop, it's time to favour performance over looks

1. I'll concede that.

2. Harvey (Smith) has done tests and found that underbonnet temperatures ROSE when a reverse scoop was fitted.
Ask him if you don't believe me......and if Harvey says it's so, it is.

Do you remember where you saw the info from Harvey? Would be interesting to see how much they rose by and if another method was used to lower temps

Obviously it's a different ball game as you do have the vents to aid in heat dissipation but have you noticed any higher or lower under bonnet temps?

RCM carbon jobbie as below. For the non-believers, why on earth did RCM use it on the Gobstopper if it serves no purpose?!

How on earth did you manage to make it that good? Made a mould from another one or did you do it from scratch?

I took the origional blob sti scoop off and had it scanned for shape, then designed the reverse scoop. Then a "technician" designed the two together and had a cast laser cut for me..

A road car can run very fast for quite a while and needs an air-FLOW.

Harvey did tests. The air-flow seemed to be in, over the gearbox, and out UNDER the car. This produced a neat venturi effect that sucked air in and over the engine too.

When he changed to a set of louvres, or rearwards scoop, the air-flow was disrupted and under-bonnet temperatures rose

First thing I asked him when I went to pick up my car after the FMIC was fitted: "Which set of louvres should I buy?" to which the reply I got was, "None!"

Now if Harvey says so, it's good enough for me.

But these are YOUR cars, you fit what you like........

Have you retained your undertray? That would also help flow to the rear. I have no undertray and i live in london so stops are very frequent for me so a reverse bonnet scoop may pay me dividends

It was worth it just for the aero effect alone, no more flexing bonnet at speed!
You get a better view of the road ahead ( seriously it makes a difference due to the size of the scoop). In terms of temps I can't really say as I haven't logged any temps prior to the scoop removal. The vent does aid heat extraction out of the engine and creates a chimney effect with the grill opening when moving. That said if Harvey says they don't work I wouldn't argue with him, he's done a lot of heat management research and knows what does and doesn't work.

With a scoop you've got two sources of cold air coming into the engine bay - through the grille, and through the scoop. All that air warms up and escapes out the bottom. Replace the scoop and you've got one source of cold air in, and two avenues of escape. So, the question is whether the extra heat extraction makes up for the reduced cold air input: the reports of Harvey's research suggests not.

But, there's another benefit to getting rid of the scoop, in terms of aerodynamics. At high speed the scoop will act like an air dam, with air not being able to pass through the engine bay quickly enough to avoid a build up of air around the scoop and in the engine bay, which will limit top speed. In that situation there may be a performance benefit in getting the air out of the engine bay as quickly as possible, even if that means extra under bonnet heat. Again though, a trade off
