Default Should it throb ?

Hello all....new to subaru's having picked up an 06 WRX last week.

Only had it a short while but I'm loving it, can't wait to get the running in period over...it feels like it want's to go.

Noticed that some people describe them as ugly..OK it's not as pretty as the gen7 celica I got rid of, but I think it has more presence (it's black) and looks much more muscular.

Can you answer a quick question ?.....when the car is stationary and the engine is idling, it sort of throbs...you can feel the movement...it's as if it's about to cut out..but tickover is solid at about 700rpm and doesn't fluctuate.

It's not a bad thing..just wondered if it was normal.

Cheers.......

This is normal, I've heard its not as pronounced on the 06 cars as it is on the blobeyes and bugeyes, it just shows the car is well connected to the engine. If I'm right it gets worse when you rev it?

One of the many joys of Scoob ownership, along with clutch judder etc etc etc...
Welcome!

It's the shape of the engine (flat four) means that gas exiting the engine joins up at the end of the manifold in uneven bursts rather than a standard in-line 4 'one after the other' it's the best bit of the car!

Perfectly, you're just being deprived of the noise at the moment due to the very tame exhaust backbox, but still "feeling" the effect. I'd suggest you get a WR sport backbox on there from Prodrive, or a third party one (e.g. the original scooby design from H&S) if the dealer says that's ok with respect to your warranty. Then, listen and grin like a loon!

The flat four rumble is one of the great motoring sounds!

And untill you get rid of the backbox and the resonator box (it looks like a snake that swallowed a hotwater bottle) you won't really get the "Subaru burble"

But if a UK get PPP and retain Warrenty

IMHO
