Its the oil on either the cones or the panels that cause the problems with the MAF sensor. So steer clear of anything that needs oiling. Cones tend to produce better results.

An IK won't get you any benefit unless you put a lot of work into isolating its air supply from the hot, dirty engine bay. Even then they are only beneficial if you are already running significant mods which require greatly increase airflow rates. Excess oiliness and vibration are known to kill MAF's, particularly on 98-00 cars. Avoid ITG as these can be extremely oily. K&N, Green and JR Racing all seem to work well. I have a JR on my 03 WRX PPP and it has been fine for over 2 years now. I also recommend doing the RESONATOR mod.

Yup, mine's a blobeye and this was in the O/S wing...

Runs cooler and spools up slightly earlier along with making the DV and induction audible.

You will have no problems with a K+N Panel which can be cleaned, oiled in accordance with the instructions and last for several 100k mls.
As indicated above, a cone filter needs a bit more thought. It will be noisier and it is best to isolate it from hot underbonnet air. However you will have no problem with a K+N cone and several others which are oiled providing you adhere to the instructions for re-oiling.
Too many people talk crap on here and recycle other peoples crap without first hand knowledge.
