Toyota Supra?

Has anyone owned or driven any of the new shape Supra manuals (93 model?) - what do you think of them apart from the usual group 20 insurance and fuel figures
Any thoughts be they good or bad would be helpful.

I had a '95 U.K. Spec Auto Mk.IV Twin Turbo Supra, and it was a lovely car. It is very luxurious compared to a scooby, and is more of a G.T. than the manic rally car that the scooby is.
Top end performance is fantastic, a real motorway muncher!!! However, I did not like the Auto box so much, and it was no where near as fun to drive as my current scooby WRX, I.M.H.O. I think if you could get a six speed manual though, then that would be great.
Both cars could be faster than the other in differing circumstances. However, the sound of a sports exhaust on a supra is something else!
Cheers,
Philip.
Oh yeah, and M.P.G. is crap, but then that's life!

OK, a mate of mine has just bought a TRD (Toyota Racing Developments) Supra, it is the manual, and this does make a BIG difference (6 gears instead of 4!).
The car is quick, not too quick off the mark but 150 mph @5k revs quick, serious top speed, and on boost acceleration.
Insurance is MUCH less than the scoob, and pretty much every Jap import, mate is 23 and his insurance was under £800 via tescos! (similar STI quote for hime was £1200). MPG is 23 or so on the motorway and 8 mpg or so blasting it!!!
So far so good, I would say the non turbos aren't that much cheaper and I wouldn't bother. Autos are much slower.
Handling - Hmmm, OK in the dry, but you can still unsettle it! Lethal in the wet, I would not own on of these if I had to use it in the Snow/heavy rain etc, and for this reason I would look down the Skyline route myself!
His car is not standard with 6 pots/Uprated Clutch(noisy)/Massive Spoiler/12" wide rear wheels (OZ)/HKS preist Exhaust (£1100 +vat in UK) all for around £13k (N reg 50k).
Happy hunting

Ive driven 2 Supra's, 1 turbo and other non turbo. They both felt great and it was a satisfying drive, loads of power with handling to compensate.
Personally I think the steering involvement and feel is one of the best ive ever had in a car as the steering was so responsive, good cars and reliable if you don't mess around too much with them.

Harj,
Did you find the non-turbo underpowered or still powerful?
Obviously the turbo one is a different kettle of fish and more BHP.
What is the BHP on both?
Jim.

I think the Turbo Cars are around 300BHP mark and the Non Turbo's 250 or less, I found the Non Turbo Car drove identically to the Turbo around the corners as the feel of both cars was identical apart from power.
I drove both cars of different occasions but tried comparing the 2, for all out power and massive the turbo would be the choice but only in manual as these cars are quite good in Auto Form but manual has to be my choice by far!
The Non Turbo cars power seemed adequate for a car of its size and weight, im sure Toyota would have sold as many Non Turbos if the Turbo was never brought out.

I wouldn't have an auto regardless as it takes a lot of the fun away
I was just wondering how big the varience is, hence the question. Obviously a non-turbo will be somewhat cheaper to run albeit minimal
The one in question that I may look at is a '93 turbo version (don't know what mark or type).
