ULEZ - Was Compliant - Now NOT
Hi,
I could really do with some advice.
My 2005 Impreza STI UK was Ulez compliant, I added a personal plate 4 weeks ago, and it came back as non-compliant.
I contacted TFL, who asked for both copies of the V5 and personal reg details; these have been provided.
They also told me to contact the DVLA and ask them; I have and was told the car was non-Euro 4.
When I check independent websites, it is saying it is Euro 4 compliant!
I have contacted a local Subaru dealer who really does not want to help.
The DVLA told me if I changed the reg back, it would still not pass the ULEZ, as my details have been updated.
Any ideas, this is driving me insane!

Euro 4 came into effect on 1st January 2006.
Your WRX STi would need to be a 2.5L Hawkeye (MY06) model to comply. (These arrived in the country around September 2005 time)
If it's a 2.0L Blob (MY05) then its probably Euro 3
Maybe you need to contact Subaru UK rather than a dealer.

UK Blob STI UK is well within NOX limits
The ULEZ standard for passenger cars is Euro 4 (or equivalent) for petrol cars and Euro 6 (or equivalent) for diesels, and it’s important to remember that it’s only the vehicle’s NOx output that is being judged here, needing to emit less than 0.08g/km of NOx. While CO2 outputs are important in the wider global warming debate, they have no impact on whether a car will be ULEZ compliant or not. Drivers of cars failing to meet the required standard are subject to a daily charge of £12.50, and the zone operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

What cars are compliant and not
So which cars are and aren’t compliant? The diesel question is pretty simple – it’ll have to be a Euro 6 machine as virtually no Euro 5 diesels (or earlier) manage to emit less than 0.08g/km of NOx. With petrol-engined cars it’s a little more complex. Euro 4 cars started hitting the streets from January 2006, but there are plenty of pre-Euro 4 cars that meet the Euro 4 emissions standards. For example, you’ll find plenty of earlier E-class Mercedes that are OK, Lexus LS430s (but not the earlier LS400), petrol Audi A2s, late model Toyota Celicas… you get the idea.

That's what i'd be doing, i recently changed the reg plate on my 2008 UK Sti hatchback to a 555 private plate and i've had no issues with the Ulez part of things, it was Ulez compliant before the change and it's still Ulez compliant after the change.
Have you spoke to the people where you bought the private plate from just to get some advice, if it's a good company like reg transfers they will have experience of most things to do with a reg transfer, you have nothing to lose and like Don says contact Subaru UK and explain the issue.

ULEZ is driving everyone insane. Can anyone explain how Nox is calculated. I know your car needs to emit less than 0.08g/km of NOx however when i look at my spec sheet it says level of Nox is: 150 mg/km. i assume this is the total amount of Nox? or am i reading this wrong..

no-one can explain as it simply a money making scam to drive 'poor' people out of cars otherwise how do you explain simply being able to "pay to pollute" ??
you can simply pay the fine for as long as you care or you can get rid of your frugal little IQ, etc and simply buy a £120K Range Rover and drive around to your hearts content ?? there appears to be NO logic??

Agreed. But it really does not make any sense, I am yet trying to figure out what car emits less than 0.08g/km. I mean even the cars that are compliant dont show on the spec it emits less than 0.08g/km. It is pathetic. Financially speaking it works out cheaper for me to keep my car as i don't drive it everyday and i work from home.

this states 20mg/km NOx and a combined THC / NOx of 76mg/km so under the 80mg/km limit........

Just keep on at them (easier said than done I know). My cousin had a similar issue with his 350z albeit that was in the CAZ. He put on a personal plate and suddenly it was non compliant. He got the typical computer says no type of answer. Eventually got it sorted.
The new number plate would make it at older car. It shouldn't make a difference though because the details should be pulled through. Like others have said it was never about the clean air, it was a money making scheme. thats just my opinion though.
