Default car doesn't seem to be registered on DVLA database

Hi I hope someone has can help me or just give me advise

I am due to pick up an R reg classic tonight I have just tried to insure it. However my insurance have said the reg R120 GNA does not appear to be registered on the DVLA system. I have tried to get a hpi check and an autotrader car check, but still no luck they to cant find the car... So I have rand DVLA and they have confirmed the reg "R120GNA" is not registered or exist but he did say it might just be a mistake on the plate the reg is defo R120GNA as I took a picture of it...I am really confused if the reg is wrong whats the fella selling it hiding??
I am now not sure if its an import or a UK car

any help or advice would be great

Regards Jim

I've got a mk3 Astra gsi like that also, have contacted the dvla over it as I've had the car for over 10 years and now they can't find a trace, funny tho because the fûckers were quick enough to send out fines for the car a few years back thanks for reminding me about it actually, I need to chase the ******* up over this

It's not showing up on the Motor Insurance Database which doesn't mean much if it hasn't been insured for a while.

If you have the relevant documents try searching here.

I have no idea it seemed odd to me
but I went round to confront the lad who was selling it as I had given him £100 deposit he smiled chuckled a little to him self showed me the log book and then peeled of the stickers on the reg plates....so to be honest I was mad at first because I thought some one was trying to mug me off...anyway I then did a hpi check and I rang the DVLA all is good he used a "0" off a reg kit you use for making up caravan plates and managed to get a white "0" from a motor store......I am now under going therapy.... STRESSSS.com............WHOOOSSAAA!! lol

Shady ******! Not the brightest spark either, picking a reg that's not in use. Reminds me of a guy on some plod reality show who'd changed his xx02 plate to xx82 with sticky tape 'cos the car was nicked, even though the number won't be used until 2032

I added the details to the Vehicle Enquiry and they ask that you contact the DVLA as the vehicle cannot be found.
