Well there's a Skoda Octavia Estate 1.9TDI PD130 Laurin and Klement (which has got to be the longest name ever for a car, no wonder it's an estate - needs to be to fit the name on!) in Auto Express mag this week.
Compared with a similar Megane and Pug. Not sure if it is 4x4 though.

The 4X4 Octavias only come in Elegance trim. The L&K luxury trim is only available on front wheel drive models.

To answer your question:-
Yes, Skoda do make a 4x4 130PD Octavia Estate...
but they don't import it to the UK.
You could 'make do' with a 1.8T 4x4 Estate and then visit Jabbasport with $425 for (a very safe) 220bhp. I did.
Average mpg is normally better than my 'best ever' in an Impreza.

Not sure I'm the same Mungo!
I've lurked in Pistonheads, but never posted there.
Flat 4x4 - I really want the diesel rather than the petrol. I had been thinking Audi/BMW/Merc but am thinking Skoda might do the trick, especially with the Jabba work. I'd rather not have FWD, ao thought the 4x4 was suitable. Do you know which markets the 4x4 130PD is available? Any RHD that could be personally imported?

All left hand drive markets only as far as I know.
Or
- pick up a (rare) demo 4 Motion Passat with the same engine
Or
- Get an A4 Tdi Quattro - I owned two (a 1.9 & 2.5), both chipped.
The 4x4 diesel combination worked very well due to low/med rev torque rather than top end power. I suprised a 'lot' of people when I took them on the track. Not much passed until the straights and the V6 would top out at 145 on the speedo (a true 138).
The alternative is to buy the petrol Octavia 4x4. On any trip that isn't all urban, I am regularly getting 30+mpg with a full tank best of 37. My Impreza average with the same power was 24!!!
YOu'll save a fortune buying the Octavia over a VW/Audi anyway !

There's an 03/03 top spec 4motion Tdi Passat estate for sale in Autocar this week - but its £20k with £6k off list !!!
As mentioned, after owning 2 x A4 TDi Quattros, and working it out, it was cheaper for me to run a petrol 4x4 Octavia than either of the A4's.
