Wink

I wouldn't touch a right hand drive one It looks rough from that picture too and I suspect it's only an 8 valve Any more details? Try looking here too My advice is to buy the best you can and you will save in the long run.

Well, I've owned a couple of 'Grales and though I can't say that I know of any particularly good sites, I guess John Whalley's is a place to start (www.whalley-integrale.uk.com).

Mechanical condition is all with these cars, and the text you have there indicates this car's had a lot of work, encouragingly done by John Whalley too. You'd do well to call John Whalley (01279 654 181) and ask them about the car (you can see its reg no to help them find it) - that's if they are prepared to talk to you about it. They always have engineer's reports when they service them so you'll know any items they noted but were not addressed.

I see, for interest, that the car is a 16 valve, and has typical after-market wheels. Most people reckon RHD modifications are to be avoided, but it all depends who did it and what steering rack is used - the standard 'Grales steering is a gem and it'd be a shame to lose that. Having said that, a LHD car is a pain when it comes to overtaking, which you'll be doing a lot of ..

It doesn't look right somehow.

Wheelarch and rear wheel look too far apart.

Scoobydoes

The only thing that says 16 valve at the moment is the bonnet but you know people change them It's interesting to see what engine it does really have. £3000 seems pricey for an 8 valve in that state though.

Thanks for replies I'm waiting for the owner and John Whally to get back to me. I had assumed that it was sixteen valve but we will see.

It also needs to be right hand drive as I don't think I could really enjoy the car with the steering wheel on the wrong side of the car.

Pop the bonnet and it'll be immediately obvious if it's a 16 valve (it'll say 16valve turbo on the cam covers - the 8v's look like old Fiat twincams (which they are!!)).

I would also steer well clear of RHD conversions. They use different racks and extra linkages to the brakes. Kannku (spelling?) motors have some lovely cars, but they will be big money. Also check out the delphi Evocorner forum on the other Grale thread.

Whatever you buy, take it to a specialist for an inspection (and I don't mean the AA - they haven't got the first clue). Get a good un and you'll never want to sell.
