I thought this would be fun.
Pictures from the early GroupA days on the RAC rally when the RAC was a rally! Pictures taken in Grizedale Forest, the Lake district, Northern England.
I miss the 5 day jaunts through England, Wales and Scotland, that was a real challenge to keep up with.
Ricky Burnup in the Peugeot309 GTi
Colin in the Legacy
Alister in the shell scholarship Sierra Sapphire Cosworth
King Carlos in the Celica
Auriol in the Lancia Delta
Keneth Erickson in the Galant VR4
Marku Alen, a true rally hero
Aghini
Stig Blomquist
Tommi Makinen in the Nissan Sunny GTiR
Yuha in the Delta
Richard Tuthill (winner in Pro-Rally, USA in 2001) in his first ever International Rally
The fall of the Berlin wall alowed this entry, a remarkable pape mashe 2 stroke Trabant

yep, 1992, all 34 stages and 352 competitive stage miles of it!
compare that to this year. 17 stages and 236 competitive stage miles.
The biggest change is the road mileage covered as it used to visit wales, england and scotland.

Yes I was there when it was a mans rally and you slept in the car, you went to places like Kielder Forest and left Wales for the day.
The best bit of the rally for us was watching the Tribant get man handled on to it side so they could change the gear box on the last road section back to the finish which was from the Forest of Aea to Chester !!!!!!
Darren.
