can't imagine anyone who owns a Porker....any Porker could be described as poor
anyway the Boxster in fact is actually dyamically the better car.......mid engine layout and all that
the only reason Porsche don't stick a more poweful engine in the Boxster is 'caused they don't want their cars to be competing with each other

one of the sales guys here has a Boxter S. Looks the bo!!ocks and drives great, but if I could afford a porker myself, it'd have to be a 911. After driving a 911 turbo, it's just not in the same league.
Might be the better car with it's layout, but it just looks like it wants to grow up and turn into a 911.

I am looking to change my Corrado for a convertible and Mazda Mx5 is too girly....Boxster is too expensive
The Mags compare the Boxster to the Honda S2000 so this might be worth a look

My m8 has a Honda Prelude and drove his Dealers demonstrator S2000. He raves about them.
If I could afford a Boxster, it'd have to be the S version. There's too many of the others kicking about. I'll need to get a pic of the one here. Huge 18" wheels and big Porker brakes
I've heard an alarming number of S2000's getting totalled. Don't know if they've got some snappy handling charactaristics or just over enthusiastic test pilots

sorry, poor mans 911
Lets see, I had a Boxster 2.5. Sold that for a 911 (993 Carrera 2) and sold that for a track day special Lotus. When it came to buy another Porsche again, I chose a Boxster S.
I'm doing two days at the Nurburgring and two days at Spa Francorchamps in a few weeks. Guess which car I'm taking; Boxster S or my Impreza (which won't be a standard 215 UK car by then)?
Read into that what you will.

I don't want to drive one. In Glasgow they tend to be driven(slowly) by middle aged women or guys with too much fake tan. Its an image thing. Call me fickle(or anything else you want)but I'd have an old 911 anyday.
P.S. Anyone seen the Carrera 2.7RS replica in Classic Cars this month? Whimper.

End of May. The ring is a public weekend but the bank holiday monday & tuesday at Spa is a proper open pitlane organised track day event. Done the ring before but never Spa - can't wait!

If you were to be given a new Boxster S or an equivalent value 911, ie, it was free, what would you choose?
Me, 911.
Says it all IMHO. Being stereotyped is unavoidable, but you can choose what category you fall into

Saying all Porsche drivers have fake tans is like saying all scooby drivers have burberry baseball caps.
I have driven both cars and the Porsche is more fun. Only had a Boxster in the Moharve though so obviously there was no rain to contend with. The scooby is simply stick your foot down and point it in the right direction.
The Boxster on the other hand can be a handfull. You stick your foot down going around a corner and feel the back flick out. Its the limit that makes driving fun not the speed. I defy anyone not to laugh as you feel your losing it around a corner in a Boxster. Its the correction and getting away with it that are fun.
I have am out for a Boxster at the moment or a decent 993 4S. You cant beat a Porker IMHO.

I'm going up north next week to see a 911 / 993 that is aparently a mint low mileage car owned by a crazy guy who's really pedantic about keeping his cars in tip-top nick. If it looks like he's gonna sell I'll let you know.

I have driven a Boxster at Thruxton (2.7 and 'S'). While they were fun they 2.7 was plain not very quick and the 'S' still felt underpowered for the chassis.
Much as I love the marque current Porsches just don't do it for me the way the older ones did. I'll stop at 993 Turbo 4 (when I get there), thanks, and I'd have a 911 over a Boxster of the same value any day of the week too. If there was a Boxster Turbo, then I might change my mind, but that's getting too close to the Carrera 2's territory as somebody said above.
CC,
What about the 944 or 968 Cabrio? I just bought a 944 Cab last week because the MX5 was so slow. S2000 was beyond my budget but IIRC they get pretty poor reviews from the press (for handling?)
