What an absolute crock of sh!te! The original Karate Kid appealed because Larusso was such a wimp and gave kids the world over hope, this Jedi Smith lad is just too full of himself like his father and mother. The original film spawned a generation of young wannabe Karate Kids doing the wax on wax off and the one leg two hands in the air thing, what legacy is this going to leave. None I tell you, just a by the number remake.

Another remake to taint the memory of a classic. Liam Neeson is a great actor ( who can forget his 'the pink elephant if you please' in the Darkman), but he's no George Peppard. Milking cash cows that's all these tw@ts are doing.

Even though Karate is japanese, the word seems to be used generically to describe any form of self defence.
I'll watch it only to see Jackie Chan as I liked his old films. I can imagine mini-Will to be a jive talking squirt though!

It wasn't meant to be a full on action adventure, but mote of the true comedy of the a team.
It did however have the double takes and the quirkiness of the characters. That alone was great.

Well I went to watch the Karate Kid with some doubt, I imagined quietly getting my phone out and playing silent games...
But I was hooked. It was a great little film, true to the original in much of the story, and Jackie Chan was fantastic! :-) Fan-cheesy-tastic.

The other reason thhe original was so good was that Mr Mayaggi (sp?) was an unknown and couldn't have looked less like a Karate master, I would have thought most people know Jackie Chan's talents

I thought it was alright - no oscar winner, but very watchable.
I think you are all reading to much into this. It's a story of good defeating evil and triumph over adversity - just go with it.
And I thought he wasn't too bad as an actor - not as cringeworthy as the kid in T2, and you can certainly see Will Smith's manerisms

Just watched it, and it was ok as a stand alone film.
But the original was a massive hit to all teenage whimps, this however didn't have the same depth.
I have not seen the full version, so maybe some parts if it I felt were lacking are taken into more depth in the extra 20 mins cinema release?
I felt the relationship between Dre and Mr. Han needed mote depth.
I wanted to know how Dre lost his father. Maybe that would have helped the bond between both characters to be more real (to me)?

I heard on the radio yester day the reason its not called 'The Kung Fu Kid' is because Dreamworks complained that it was too similar to 'Kung Fu Panda' FFS!!
