Never used to but its so cluttered on here now that I feel it's a necessity. Also the run of dodgy ads we had a while back prompted me to consider it.

Adblock and Flashblock, added bonus it that it seems to speed it all up a bit too.

I use firefox with addblockplus plugin when browsing ALL sites. I also block all cookies unless specifically allowed. My three top filters....

http://ad.*
http://ads.*
*.google-analytics.com/*

Usually, there is one or two scripts on a site, that then pull in all the other adverts. I also generally block entire sites rather than individual items, all of which helps keep my blocked list to a minimum and browser speed at a maximum

Yes, I do, FF +ABP, permanently enabled, and as far as I can see there's nothing in the T&C's about it.

I think I used Adblock software for a very short period of time, just to see what difference it made. I'm not using it and to be honest I don't feel the need to. I don't really notice the adverts, so it does not bother me.

Apart from a possible speed issue with the site, do those who complain about the ads truly begrudge IB from making money from the ads? If so, then why?
I presume you realize that running a forum of this size does require a bit of cash to do (server hosting, bandwidth costs, software/support costs, and probably other costs too). Yes, some of us have paid to use SN, but I think this would amount to a very small dent in the running costs of SN.
There is the tricky aspect of "contribution", as there isn't a monetary value to that, and many could say that they have contributed time and effort in replying to threads and therefore they are increasing the value of SN.

Ah bugger, I forgot to mention that one, which I don't have a problem with at all, for obvious reasons.

If SN can guarantee that no dodgy adverts will be shown so 1) I don't get sacked and 2)not make me look a ****, then I would happly turn ads on for this bbs.

Has Stu got something he could do about this, it must be in his interest?
