Default Money grabbing.

Every time I hear someone bleat that Apple are money grabbers I think of this situation and how brown the grass is on the other side.

So what? Most people purchase their phone on 2 year contracts and therefore upgrade when it's up and guess what it's roughly the same time the upgrades stop. No big deal there then.

If you're really bothered about it then root the phone and put any number of custom ROMs available on it.

These are Nexus devices which should offer the longest support period and... "On average, the Nexus devices that are no longer running the most current Android version (i.e. Lollipop 5.1, API level 22) received support for a meager 21.0 months."

I can just imagine telling my old mother that instead of updates just happening she'll have to root, download a mod with a hacker/leet name and do some elaborate update process.

If you're happy with that situation then all power to you, I'm glad I'm not the one getting ripped off.
