Question

A white saloon car, big fat tyres, large (NOT Drainpipe!) bore exhaust, wallowing all over, couldnt make out what it was - except that it had BEAUFIGHTER written on the back. The old geeza smiled as I overtook him, that - 'this was very fast in its day sunny' kinda smile!!

I have looked on the net and found out that it was the name of a plane in WWII - indeed, the reg number contained the letters RAF !!!

Anyone any ideas what it may have been (looked like an old large Fiat of the 70's)

Most probably a Bristol. Very exclusive hand built car, completely bespoke, will probably last longer than you will, and powered by big old Chrysler V8.

Thanks Reffro - the way it was wallowing all over I fully expect it to pay a visit to the nearest hedge. Looked in very tidy condition, was in/around Selbourne in Hants in case anyone has seen it also!

Pete, I think youve got enough on your plate at the moment trying to sell that Escort without having me to sort out.

I was just thinking how much the Escort Cabriolet looked like a Bristol

Anyway, I can beat you up while you buy the Cabbie
