Depends if you need a TV with DTS Surround and speakers.
If not, go for the Toshiba 32Z13B - nicam stereo 32" but its the sharpest non 100Hz widescreen around (IMHO) at the mo. 799 delivered from Switch It On.
Will come back to you about the DVD, etc

Visit AVForums. Its like Scoobynet but for electrical items. I have the same username so look out for me on there.
Visit the Televisions forum and there is loads of advice in there, most of it saying steer clear of Sony. I have just bought a Panasonic 28" WS from an online retailer - the worst service ever from a company so mail me DIRECT if you need to know who they are. Mine has a few niggles, which are common to Panny apparently, including speakers that hum/buzz when on low volume setting, and a bendy picture sometimes - other than that it is nice.

Gotta be Sony for me.
32" widescreen, twin tuner, switchable 50 or 100 hz, lots of features, have matched it to a Sony DVD home cinema kit/dolby 5.1, loadsa speakers and a sub etc
TV = KV32FQ75
DVD/Cinema kit = DAVS500
I think? cant be bothered to go downstairs and check!
The guy who installed Sky for me said he had the same setup and would always recommend Sony.
A friend recently bought a Panasonic Widescreen, and like Dream Weavers, his picture goes all "weird" and "bendy" sometimes, I told him to take it back but so far he hasnt, and the speakers do buzz a low volume...all in all a pile of cr@p if you ask me.
No doubt an "AV Expert" will pick faults with Sony, but for the "Normal" man in the street its an excellent choice.
At the end of the day the choice is yours.

Looking to get a new TV but reading all the review you get very confused and wonder what you are buying. Looking at Sony KV32FX65, Panasonic TX-32PB50 and Toshiba 32ZD09B/32ZP18P.
One thing that I find funny is that all the reviews say that 100Hz does not produce pitcure as good as a decent 50Hz set, so why bother with 100Hz in the first place.
Will be connecting a good DVD player and Sky Digital up to the box.
Thing Panasonic might win, but do like the Tosh and Sony

I'd go for a Daewoo 28" Widescreen with a Matsui DVD, get an Alba Amp (much better than anything else - due to the MEGABASS system)
For speakers I'd be tempted by the Schneider Cinema Speaker system, but you'll probably find you've run out of cash by now.

Have you not considered Philips?
32PW9616 32" - loads of features , Video with Tape Manager is brilliant too VR765 I think. TV has NextView with SmartLink to video. You can use the teletext to program the video... - amazing ... well, I was amazed anyway Teletext is brill too! - No waiting, Instant page/sub-page recall - FANDABIDOSI!
(Picture & sound are good too! )

Sometimes just go with your gut instinct. You can read every magazine in the world and be none the wiser.(talking from experience).
If i wanted a new tv i'd be very tempted by the Sony Trinitron, and the only reason is cos i saw one this morning in Currys.
The picture was just the best.
Just IMO from today, and i know FA about tv's.

Nick,
View at the High Street buy on-line. As Dream Weaver says check out the AVForums.
Also have a look at www.homecinemachoice.com for some reviews.
I'd be tempted to buy a good TV and DVD player now and perhaps upgrade to include amps and speakers later rather than buy everything cheaply within your current budget.
Si,
Size matters, I have a 46" Toshiba in a 20'X14' room and its starting to look small. Couldn't get the 56" in without removing the window though.

Anyone thinking of buying a plasma screen should read this:

You might think twice?

I work in a shop selling Sony,Pana, JVC ,Thomson etc
IMO the best tv for picture has to be the Sony 32FQ75 with the Panasonic TX32PB/PG 50 close behind. The Pana had Dolby/DTS built in but its pretty poor compared to a separate system. If your budget can stretch go for the Sony DAVS-800 if not the DAVS 500.
As for a VCR they are all much of a muchness really with the above go for either SLV-SE710 or 810.
Target prices should be
KV32FQ75 £1400-1500
DAVS 800 £525
DAVS 500 £350
SLVSE710 £125
SLVSE810 £150
Now some purists really slate Sony but in my experience Joe Public loves them and the picture quality on the Sony really is awesome. You can also switch between 50hz and 100hz.
We sell far more Sony gear than any other and not because of any manafacturer incentives.Feel free to email me if you want any more info
Jim
p.s What the other guys are saying about Pana's is true, but I have only witnessed it on a couple of tellys though.

Jim,
Did a bit of hunting around and now thingking about getting either
the KV32FX65 or the KD-32NX100S with the Pioneer 646A or Sony NS-900VS DVD player.
Any views on these, I know the latter Sony TV is expensive but apparently has a very good picture.

The Nx 100 is a really lovely piece of kit in an I-Mac kind of way. If you like the looks then go for it. Check your Digital reception first, but it really is a top notch piece of kit.(I hate the stand though, crappy little shelves). The 900 is also a first class player but I belive the Pioneer is also a bit good.
The FX65 is a good telly but not a patch on the NX100 IMHO
Current retail for the NX100 is about £2200 but shop around and I think you can pick it up off the net for a fair bit less.

Sal and I have got the Sony KV32FQ75 - lovely TV - supberb picture quality. We've also got the Sony DAV S800 DVD player with integrated amp/tuner etc. Does 5.1, DTS, SACDs etc amazing sound quality. If you want to go slightly cheaper - look at the DAVS300 - slightly less power, but still good quality and more than ample for small / mid size room.
The TV is big, we live in a town house and it nearly killed the two delivery guys taking it up the stairs to the lounge . Goto a Sony Shop or similar and have a look and measure, it can take over in the room if you are not careful.

Got to be honest for the extra £100 the DAVS 500 is well worth it
SACD compatible and cdr compatible and more powerful and perhaps most importantly its built by Sony not LG

Loewe for TV's - the best, both in terms of design, function, picture and build quality.
Mossman
(I spent a LONG time last year looking into 32" TV's and no Sony, Tosh, Panny came close to the Loewe.

Sony KV32FQ75 is the mutts nutts!
I recommended it on my 1st post, jimbrit (who sells TV's) has recommended it and Chris L(mod') recommends it...
What more can we say...
IT IS AN EXCELLENT TV
If you buy it you WONT be dissapointed.
I got mine with a DAV S500 as it was in a deal (£1650 the lot) but would agree that the DAV S800 is better, though I can't fault the '500
FULL REFUND if not totally satisfied with it (*terms and conditions apply)
As NIKE say... Just Do It !

Just last week I bought a Sony KV36FS70 Widescreen TV.
This is Sonys top of the range (non plasma) TV and the picture quality is simply stunning.
It supports Dolby 5.1 as well, so sound is great.
List price is about £2200, but a friend of mine works for Sony UK and got me it at 'employee rate' for £1050!!! Something of a bargain I thought.
Even at £2200 it's a stunning bit of kit. If you shop around I know that you can get it for about £1900 and 12months interest free credit.
My neighbour got the 32" version and to be honest there's not much in it in terms of the space it takes up, but the picture is a good bit nicer at 36", and the 36" has a centre speaker built in + Dolby instead of Nicam.
To me the Sony pictures just look so much better than the other manufacturers. While I was debating what to buy I used to go around TV showrooms and it was so easy to spot the Sony screens, they stood out from the crowd.
Truth be told though ALL the wide screen TVs having great pictures, so I don't think you can big a badun.
