Apple Storage
Got some cracking eating apples on our small tree this year. Size of oranges - must have been the wet summer
Now ready for picking but how do I store them, at least for a month or two?
I have memories of "cool dark place and separated". The garage is dark and possibly the coolest but it still gets a bit warm. Would the fridge be better?
Tips please. dl

I can't remember exactly how my Grandad stored them, I think what you say about the garage might be right though.
What I will say is check them/cut them in half before eating them. I nearly wet myself laughing when my sister bit into 1 and found half a maggot. Her reaction was priceless

We have a tree that produces excellent cooking apples each autumn, that mature into eaters with storage.
Pick from the tree, windfalls will be bruised and go rotten in days, wrap each apple in newspaper and store in a closed cardboard box, no more than 3 layers. These were kept in the garden shed, in a shaded part of the garden, so always cool/cold. Check each month and use up those that look bruised or are showing any ill signs. Last year we were eating apples picked some 5 months earlier.
A bit of a fiddle about but worth it.
Must add, some varieties are very poor 'keepers'.
Good luck

Most kids would have to be made to eat an Apple these days, at gun point, never mind getting of their ***** to go and nick it, perhaps they could download Virtua Scrumper for the PS3 ?
