What I don't quite understand is why, given the overcrowding problem in prisons, these people served thier sentence over here, rather than just being deported straight away.
Why make them serve a sentence, if you are going to deport them once they are released anyway?

I agree with Pete btw, (Brant not SJ
) that all this overcrowding in prisons is stupid considering we are looking after foriegn criminals
