A nice simple common sense, isnt it obvious story from the Times

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/newspap...4987_1,00.html

I really fail to understand how other people cant see this. (The latter half about Mr Garrett)

What.. you mean how it should be..

The trouble is it's exactly as the writer says, wet and weak and no one stands up for what is right, as soon as the "race card" is uttered everyone quivers with fear.

It may be obvious to you, you lucky man you, but it's far from obvious to the teeming hordes that dribble their way through life, so with that in mind...

Good article

Great article. Thought this paragraph really summed it up.

He was the kind of guy who’d never get a job in education today. For some kids he was the most solid male presence they had in their lives. Whenever I bump into former classmates in my old neighbourhood, he’s the teacher we remember most fondly, wondering how he’s doing now. He didn’t always have our affection, but he commanded our respect. He saw enough innate worth in us to set us standards and be bitterly disappointed when we fell short.

Remember the local bobby who would clip anyone behind the ear if they were mis behaving. If you then told your parents they would clip you around the ear as well.

Just imagine that happening in todays society They would get hung drawn & quartered in a flash

I as a kid, like my brother, had a golly wog made for me by my Nan. Robinsons jam had a set of golly badges that you could collect. They had no race or political meaning at all. Wonder if they would consider bringing them back as a collection?? I dont recon so

I don't think that it comes down to "discipline" as this implies a beating ... it's really just about getting across to your kids the difference between right + wrong. Respect also comes in to it as well. You don't need discipline to earn respect from anyone let alone your kids, do you?

Discipline implies a beating ?

Only if you have no imagination and no clue about the meaning of the word.

Wink

Oooh ... that hurt!

According to Websters, discipline = punishment = (a) suffering, pain, or loss that serves as retribution (b) a penalty inflicted on an offender through judicial procedure (c) severe, rough, or disastrous treatment.

I don't think that it's a particularly big leap of "imagination" to read between the lines & conclude that discipline could imply a beating.

Muppet ...

the people that write these news papers have no clue. Its like they somehow actively look to blame hip hop for all of societys problems, instead of facing up to the real issues.

It wasn't meant to "hurt". I was pointing out an inaccurate conclusion.
That little word there in bold is totally missing from your earlier statement, and completely changes it.

Your original statement was an absolute. Now it's only "could imply".

Go and sort out your English before calling people muppets for daring to point out your mistakes

ps
"loss that serves as retribution "
"a penalty inflicted on an offender through judicial procedure"
"severe, ...... or disastrous treatment"

No mention of physical punishment there.

"...pain..." and "rough treatment" could imply a beating (but not necessarily)

I'm glad you took the trouble to look up Websters and prove my point. Thanks

Docspock.

I've looked at your other posts & conclude that you should limit your comments as to who's sexy & who isn't ... more your level.
