After watching the first 40 mins of this programme dont you feel like giving those kids a bloody good slap. Lack of discipline is appaling.Their cheeky, lazy, arrogant little buggers.
Mother looks a typical single mum type person as well.Though she obviously thinks she is doing the right thing and does care for them I think she needs a liitle guidance in child discipline.
Chip.

Not being a parent myself Chip I dont know how hard it is bringning up 4 children on my own, BUT i would agree with you, they are so cocky that they would get their own way I was nearly shouting at my T.V. for them to get a grip.
Young children they are but they need to learn a damn site more manners. Youngest girl banging her fork and knife on her plate because she had to go and get a couple of bowls. The kids just thought they could run riot, with NO respect for Portillo (MP or not).
The mother expected her kids to take a len of him so they must try the same with her.
I was brought up to respect my parents and other adults and do what I was told. They have no regard for the basic principle of when someone tells you to do something you do it.
Think the single mum is trying but I think she could learn a fair bit to get them into line which would make her life easier aswell.

They were just normal kids!
All kids try to push the boundaries, especially with people they don't know.
Add that to their Mum not being there and the cameras in their face and they're bound to act up a little.
We were all little b@stards once

I believe Portillo donated the money received to a charity.
My respect for him has increased immeasurably. I thought he came across as very fair, worked well at the school and at Asda, and was just generally a nice guy. He was also very honest - statingt o camera that the area was one where educational achievement was not highly valued was not the sort of statement you'd normaly hear a politician saying, and despite the fact that the mother disgareed, I think he was bang on the money.
Compare him to IDS - which would you choose? I'm guessing not the slaphead.

289-Portillo kept the money for himself.
I didn't see the whole program but the kids were hurrendous and the mum looked pretty bad. He did pretty well i thought.

I bet Portillo is rubbing his hands at the timing of this, as the leader of his party is going through tough times.
Wouldn't be too surprised if he's the new leader in the near future. That might make them a closer 3rd place party.
He did come across alot better than I expected him too though, although a some comments were a bit naive.

Portillo is unlikely to get another senior position in a Tory cabinet because of his predilection for pale young boys ....
Yes, he made that public statement about "dabbling with his sexuality" at university, but the word from local Tory party members is that it's just the tip of the iceberg ...

The gf saw a program the other day prior to the screening when he stated that, 'he needs to earn money just as much as anyone else', no mention of donating it. Perhaps some of his peers have 'advised' him what he should do for PR!
He could have bought the family a washing machine at least!!!

He's like most Tories ....................... as bent as a 10 bob note!!! He's gay and likes Gold wheels, so he is pretty much doomed to a life in the wilderness!!
Which is damned good as he could threaten Blair I reckon if he were leader of the opposition ............ sadly he likes choirboys!

I think Portillo may have picked up a few votes
The guy is a smart career politician and knew exactly what he was doing. He came across as an ok guy because that's how he wanted to. This wasn't a fly on the wall program with a real person who hasn't been in front of a camera before but a guy whose job is to manipulate his image. Come on really. This guy admitted he has never had to budget for anything in his life & just doesn't get it. Just the type of person you want to make decisions affecting real people.

I seem to recall Portillo admitted dabbling with homosexuality when younger. It takes courage to admit it so fair play to him. According to stats 1 in 4 blokes has or would like to experiment, suprisingly few if any admit to it, funny that!.
I really do not care if he was/is gay as long as he is good at his job/competant. His sexuality is not an issue. His ability is!
I though he did well in the programme and he impressed me with his attitude and how he delt with 4 kids he had never met before.
Good job!
As for Portillo for Prime Minister, not a problem!
I for one have had enough butt-fecking by a Labour government 'a change is as good as a rest' as they say.

I thought the guy did brilliantly - remember he has ZERO experience of kids. He didnt raise his voice once and spoke to the kids without condesension and always gave a reason for his requests and actions - as you would to an adult.
Those bad mouthing the mother here need to get off their high horse - you wouldnt have coped as well as her or the poofter Tory I'm sure. Bloody snobs.
I assure you there would have been a location and appearance fee to the family, let alone the MP from the production too. That's how businesses work...
What a top bloke he was - he'd get 'un abrazo' off me let alone a potential vote! Viva el espanol! None of you would have coped with that Renault 5 like him without becoming very miserable indeed, so can it!

I agree with Diesel.
I'd guess the people who are slagging the single mother off, either do not have kids, and if they do, have always had loads of help from relatives or friends.
I didn't see the whole program, but I too thought they were just playing up to the cameras a little, and testing the bounderies.
Looking after 2 kids (let alone 4) is far harder than any full time job I have ever done. She is to be commended for keeping it together and providing a home for her kids.
