The local plod in West Cumbria have now caught on to this laser speed trap lark.
Today i was driving to Carlisle on a good A road. I had driven along a section that is basically straight for 1.5 miles, but has a dip in the bottom and then after another half mile a crest. I was sitting at about 75-80 mph as I approached the crest but was closing in on another car so I came off the throttle completely and allowed the car to slow. It was then I noticed the unmarked tranny van sitting on the verge with the rear doors open, so no time to hit the brakes. I think I was down to 65mph. So who thinks i'm likely to get done? What is the word with these lasers, is it they do you for the exact speed ie 1mph over and you're done or do they have the 10% plus 2mph rule?

Know how you feel I passed one of these at about 68 mph after a tightish bend in Wales last year. I noticed the camera facing me and reacted as you did. I sweated for the next two weeks and I have never heard a thing FYI the ACPO guidelines for speed enforcement are 10% plus 5mph. This equates to 71 in a 60, 60 in a 50 and so on.

Thought I'd got done by me on a 40mph straight dual carriageway. I was doing 55 last time I looked at the speedo, then I say a shiny thing behind a bush in the central reservation.
Laser camera! Operated by a bloke in a leather jacket hiding behind the bushes. By the time I realised it was too late, but I was off the throttle as I was approaching traffic, so I dropped to about 45ish. Thankfully never heard anything
I'm sure they were breaking guidelines, in a central reservation, not wearing reflective clothing, not in a visible location, no signs warning of cameras. I'm sure that would have thrown the case out the window!!

Hate to pi55 on the bonfire...but ACPO guidlines are 10% + 2 mph.
i.e. 1% is possible.

They do have guidelines but if you get caught, then you're caught!
They can catch you before you've even spotted them so by the time you've slowed and looked at the speedo they may have you at a higher speed. I speak from experience

ACPO guidelines are used by all Police Forces (10% + 2mph). It is down to the discretion of the individual officer (in the cases of hand-held devices) or the officer in charge on speed enforcement days. The 10% + 2 mph is given for discrepancies in the speedo and not as a buffer zone. Technically speaking the Police can prosecute for +1mph over any limit, the guidelines from ACPO are exactly that, guidelines.
Back to the topic tho', good luck....hope its not a fine and points, no fun with scooby insurance

Sorry to hear about the scare M8, The whereabouts of the white vans with the lasers in the back are listed in the Cumberland News and the Evening Star.....
The BIG thing at the moment AFAIK is the Alston to Penrith Road where 2 motor cyclists died in the last 2 weeks (please excuse any offence at mentioning a fatality) so you might be safe.
