just a side question..

how good are the subaru standard timing belts..

its a question from my friend.. his car is running 344bhp

and had the belt done by previous owner when it came into the contry with standard subaru belt.. done 30k miles since then with this power..

any stories of it snapping?

The amount of power you have has no effect on the timing belt. The only possible consideration might be the engines (and therefore the belts) ability to accelerate quicker.

spoke to RCM they say the sti version belt is more than good enough. made of a stronger material.

The belts dont normally suffer from premature failure even running big HP - the tensioners can and do go weak if it is the original one and results in belt whip.

Standard type belt is fine for most applications, but they do tend to stretch over time, especially on engines with up rated valve springs.
