Please help. Funny noise from under bonnet.
I was driving around today and notied that on decceleration and acceleration I am getting a funny grinding noise from under the bonnet. I can't hear it when the car is idle and my girlfriend is throttling the engine. I also can't hear it when on the motorway.
Has anyone heard this before or can point me in the right direction? I have replaced both the intercooler and Air Filter this weekend but everything is tight and connected up properly.
I have a 99 Reg classic, Turbo AWD. No mods apart from a tilt kit and a STI air filter.
Please help! onder2:

Pads were replaced recently so should not be those. Is there any easy way to check wheel bearings or sticky caliper?
Thanks for the comments.

Sticky caliper? Worn pads? Even wheel bearings?

Ed, i have something i'd like you to check for me please. I don't know if it's directly related or not but sounds as though it may be...
Open your bonnet and check to see if the two white washer-hose clips have been rubbing on your intercooler. They're the ones on the underside of the bonnet below the scoop in the picture below.
If they haven't don't worry. If they have then run the hose inside the bonnet and lose the clips as pictured.
I obviously wasn't aware of this when i sold the kits... it was only brought to light when someone discovered symptoms similar to yours, resurrected the problem as above and then kindly informed me of it.
Let me know how you get on.

Thanks for the message. I will check it tomorrow and let you know. It is so difficult to check anything when the bonnet is down due to the plastic strip that needed cutting down (and no light from under the bonnet). I wll give it a go and let you know the results!
Thanks for all the comments and I will post any info I get here.

Lol, i find it strange that this has only just come to light. My kits were/are made to the exact specifications as Michael Souths which have been doing the rounds for years lol...
For the record there was no noticeable noise on my car. Just a wee scar on the intercooler.

Sods law mate. As soon as you try doing something for yourself it all goes Pete Tong! Voice of experience, or at least something like that!
