Subaru Legacy 2.0r non turbo 2005 plate fuel pump advice please
I've got an issue with power and performance occurring with my Legacy ( non turbo 2 litre) as detailed on another thread.
The fuel pump has been removed and has got various broken casing clips.
The mechanic working on my car thinks a whole new pump is the best way to go.. but that costs over £600 and needs ordering from Japan which is over 5 weeks apparently.
I'm also not sure that the part is even going to solve the performance issue the car is currently suffering from!!
Any ideas/suggestions greatly appreciated 👍

Pump won't be that expensive its the cradle thats the issue. Might be worth getting a cradle from a breakers and then buying a new pump and putting it in.

nb unfortunately the pump can only be purchased via Japan on a 4-8 week wait.

Pump is used in hatch impreza (07 onwards) also if you check the usage here
http:/opposedforces.com/parts/info/42022AG140/
You might find a breaker that will give you the complete assembly including pump
What I wonder is could you run an uprated pump - the pump assembly itself is used across all impreza/legacy models for that era so I assume it's the actual pump rating thats different....your regulator might be able to handle an uprated pump, you could probably pick up a wrx/sti pump handy enough to try given that most wrx/sti owners will uprate that item

Places might sell the pump with the cradle as one whole item. But you should be able to replace just the pump. If anything you might need to swap connectors over but that should be about it.

Current part number for complete pump less level gauge is 42022AG100
The broken clips mentioned are probably those that hold the pump/ filter assembly together

unit on ebay also if you wanted to take a punt on that - given the low demand for such items id say you prob get it for a decent low ball offer of like £30

I just got a second hand fuel pump sender unit off of a breaker in Cardiff.. so I'm gonna get it put in on Monday.
The guy doing the job says don't bother getting a replacement fuel pump and use the one already in the second hand unit.
I assume that's a good idea? 🤔

I'm assuming you mean fuel pump with sender unit.
I would imagine the minimum that needs doing is replacing the fuel filter in the unit which is how this all started off

I'm assuming filter needs replacing tbh but it's by no means certain that the fuel pump is the culprit regarding the power loss issue as of yet. Once the replacement sender unit is in then I'll know whether the issue is resolved or whether the investigation continues 🙂

Seems problem was indeed with failing fuel pump and damaged housing. There were metal filings in the old filter too.
The cradle I got from the breakers was in good condition and my Legacy is now running decently again.
I'm suspicious the new e10 fuel may have also been a factor so I'm going to use e5 super from now on.
BIG thanks for all the advice above, everyone, it was very useful indeed!
