Default Fuel pump fitting on a pre 93 legacy

I need to change the fuel pump on my legacy turbo and I'm not sure how to access it. Do I have to drop the tank out or can I gain access through the rubber 'gromets' under the back seat, where the wires and pipes seem to go. Also, can anyone recommend the Walbro high pressure pump, I'm considering it having been quoted £326 for the genuine subaru part .

Any help/tips would be a great help.

Cheers.

Graham.

Yes walbro pump is very good..

I presume it will be the same as the impreza..

If saloon then remove rear seat.. then remove the small domed cover and you see through the boot floor onto the top of the tank.. there is then some 8mm nuts holding the top cover on and some fuel lines and the wiring plug..
first remove electrical plug and run car to remove fuel pressure from fuel lines.. undo pipes and 8mm nuts.. lift the panel which has a cradle underneath it with the pump in..
remove pump and replace with new one basically.

There should be plenty of threads with pictures and more detail.. try search

Thanks for the reply Simon,

The car is an estate, and I have just found the access plate tucked away at the back of the luggage area , could'nt see it for looking at it!!

Cheers.
