Lets all laugh at the common "riff raff"

Seriously though, after testing Ubuntu for a few days now, i can not see any use for windows on my old work laptop at all.
Installed, it worked, tested it, it all worked, bar flash, which needed one extra installation.
Simples!

Been using Ubuntu for about a year and a half now .... it'd take a seriously strong offering from MS to lure me back and 7 isn't it! Combined with the possible future of their applications becoming online once the uk's internet structure drags it backside up to par it's even less likely that i'll go back.
Linux does have it's annoying niggles - particularly with web based stuff and less common hardware but, these days it doesn't seem any worse than MS from what I've heard!
Plus, you can still run MS apps or even the full MS operating system inside linux courtesy of v-box anyway so it's win all ways round

I used Kubuntu for a while & found it really good - easy to use and loads of helpful people on the forums, can't understand why it's perceived as elitist. The only thing my linux box couldn't do was games but I have another machine for that.

I agree, i only use windows for the gaming to be honest. Although my works CCTV system needs windows as well (shame as it crashes now and again)
I was expecting Ubuntu to be a real ball ache, expecting to have to mess with it a lot to get it to run, i tried the live cd in both my home desktop (quad core games machine) and it worked fine, and then in my old ancient laptop (800 mhz x22 thinkpad) where it worked fine in that, no issues at all, so i installed it permanently on the laptop and have been using it ever since.
If it were not for some chap telling me to try knoppix to save a crashed HD i would never have even gone down this path, i did not realise you could "try out" a new OS just be rebooting with a CD in the drive, great feature!
