Question

The scenario

I had 1 PC configured as a PC Anywhere host via broadband connection. This worked fine and dandy.
Now I have added a Netgear router/hub/firewall and added another 2 PC's. So, I have a network of 3 PC's. One PC is acting as a server/data storage and this is the PC which I wish to configure as a host.
The question is how do I break through the Netgear router to the PC. Before, all I had to do was supply the Host PC's IP number and the remote PC could talk to it. Now that I have introduced the router into the equation, I am a bit stumped.
What info do I need to give to the remote PC to establish a handshake ?

Any PC Anywhere wizards out there who can shed some light ?

Thanks

Mr Gee

You need to configure the router so that it forwards the ports that PC Anywhere uses to the host PC (defaults are 5631 & 5632).

The remote PC will then need the IP address from the WAN (Internet) side of the router. Calls to PC Anywhere are then passed from the router to the PC.

Sorry to sound dumb, but how do I go about configuring the ports on the router. Is this done via some sort of software (none came supplied with the router) or is this done via PC Anywhere ?

Thax

Most, if not all, Netgear routers are factory set to IP address 192.168.0.1 Connect a PC to it (if not done already) and enter that address into the address bar will open a web-style interface page where you can set various items.

You'll need a username and password to access the interface page, the default ones are given in the product manual, or are available on the Netgear support pages.

Once in, look in the Menu for Rules or Port Forwarding. The exact way you set them depends on the model number of the router. On mine, I set a rule called PC Anywhere to forward the TCP & UDP packets on the ports PCA is set use to the IP address of my host PC (192.168.0.2) As above, the default port numbers are 5631 & 5632. The ones entered on the router must match these if changed.

OK Many thanks for that. It makes sense. I will try this tomorrow morning as PC is not at my house.
