Ok got NTL broadband installed today, however, i did not want the guys to start drilling through walls to route to my study.

So what are my options rather than have a cable being dragged from living room to study.

I know i can use a wireless router.

Any recommensations to wireless cable router??

How would this be connected? Is it NTL modem into router?

Then, how would my PC pick up the signal & would i still get full 1mb connectivity?

Are there any security things to look out for in a wireless connectivity?

Do i want a Wireless router or Wireless networking as all i want to do is connect PC to broadband.

And the final question, where do you recommend to buy from.

Sorry for all the questions im am amateur when it comes to this.

Thanks

Bob

Hi Bob,

A good starting point would be:

http://www.dabs.com/uk/channels/hardware/networking/productView.htm?quicklinx=24JL

I'm using a wired D-link router to share my NTL-Cable modem with two PC's.

You'll also need a wireless network card. The router about is 22MB so your cable modem will be the bottleneck ;-)

You will need to connect the wireless router to your cable modem with RJ45 cable (my wired D-link router came with a short length to connect my router to PC. A wireless one may not).

Why not run a cable from your living room to your study yourself. Either under the floor or through the loft? This would be cheaper. I'd only go wireless if you've got a laptop or wish to move your desktop frequently. There should be minimal security risks and no speed problems with Wireless networking.

Ian
