Question

External or PCI?? Is there an advantage to either? Any make/model recomendations welcome
Or would I be better off with a router? I will only be using one pc on this connection.

Darren

Hello

A router allows you to use all the CPU cycles of your PC, and is much better than PCI (or USB).

How expensive is a decent router? Should I get one with a firewall, as I have a good software firewall package already?

Cheers,

Darren

just get a simple adsl router will do. you can always use software firewall. you might want to get one with a 4-port switch as well. have a look at adslguide for hardware review.

I have looked at their packages but I want a 1mb line which I don't believe they do at the moment
Also leaning towards the router option. Like the look of the Solwise SAR715. Anyone got one?

I bought a MRI ADSL router with usb and Ethernet (1 port) for £51 inc vat from Scan, and very happy with it I am too.

I'm quite suprised by the functionality on offer for the money, including port redirection, firewall + port filtering, VPNs etc.

Cheers,

Alex
