You actually running 450 at mo Fatman??.
What ECU you running, not Motec I take it.

The EXE-TC is pretty scary. You need to really push to find it's limits.
Best way to describe it is that you don't feel the road through the tyres anymore, but through the set up.
I am running at setting 20 of 40 and it's impressive.!!
Wet conditions - very little difference.

Steven,
I assume you have a client down here somewhere so you're probably doing the business thang, but, if you're bored in the Clarendon sometime I might even stretch to buying you a beer! I'll drop you a pm.

Skullfudge - yep 450 and Motec. Granby - very near.

About 370/380 ftlbs - 2 litre and RCM GT35 P20 hybrid turbo. The relatively low torque explains how my box has held together until now ( although it's beginning to complain).

Fair to say that my engine is one of the earlier 400+ jobs at around 3 years old - also explains why Motec. It was originally fitted to another guy's p1, but we swapped engines a year ago when he needed some cash. Matt and Ollie know it well however as the orginal customer - Chris Ball -lives only a few minutes from them and the car had also lived with them for 90+% of the previous 2 years. Unfortunately they weren't able to do the swap as they're so busy, but a local guy near there did it and they checked it over afterwards.

Slight thread hijack; Fat Boy have you had any issues with your P1 box running that amount of torque? Does it get launched regularly or dragged?

Cheers,Ian

Hi Ian

Never dragged and not really a traffic light GP hero either, but it does get a pasting once it's on the move (say into and out of bends/ roundabouts, or on track). It is beginning to complain now, hence me looking at a 6 speed in the New Year.

It's my toy car so not in a mad rush, but then it's not a stripped out race machine either, so although I toyed with the idea of a semi helical PPG 4 and P1 5th 5 speed set up I suspect that it's probably partly the longitudinal split gearbox as much as the narrower gears that limit the 5 speed's strength, hence my plan to go 6speed dccd. Similar costs.

My P1 is already set up for the dccd as I have Steven's/P20SPD's old dccd and supporting kit on the car at the moment and the 6 speed dccd will operate from the same kit.

John

Fatboy, I have found gear changing more difficult with more power. I am running the standard P1 box at the moment although I do have a 6 speed box at RCM that Olly recently found.
From 4th to 5th is when I need to direct a bit of attention on the case. It falls into 3rd real easy while aiming for 5th.
What's your RPM limited to Fatboy?

Talking

I don't rev it too high, but from memory Bob Rawle set the limiter at 7750 - despite the Steel billet wrc crank and other lightened bits and bobs - when the CEL light flashes as a warning and power is cut.

The first few times I gave it stick, I couldn't change gear quick enough as it revs so freely, and managed to run into that. Crapped myself as I thought that I'd blown the engine

5th and 3rd is Ok for me so far, but the whining is getting worse so it's only a matter of time.

Good news re the 6 speeder. I will start looking in earnest after Christmas.

Where my engine falls down is that, being an early one Matt didn't build it with uprated rods, so although in theory the engine would run much more power with a rotated turbo set up like the one you're getting it wouldn't like it. The orginal spec was for a car that would make a great road car - balance of decent power versus driveability and a bullet proof bottom/top end. In Olly's words it was built to charge around Donington all day.

Would love a go in yours when it's finished just to see how mad 600 is in a classic, but until then pretty happy with "just" 450

Be very very careful with 4th to 5th on a six speed especially when "going for it". I blew a £12K engine to peices by selecting 3rd by mistake when I changed at circa 7krpm in 4th going for 5th and hit third by mistake.

The six speed can be incredibly vague sometimes! Use with caution

Exclamation

Ian

Probably worth saying that my original P1 engine was running around 340 for over 5 years and the gearbox was given a hard time with many track days on slicks and generally only being driven when I was going for an "enthusiastic" drive. I've had the car from new and although it has had the 5th gear locking nut caused crunch sorted 3 or 4 times, it has never suffered a major gearbox related problem ( until now) .

I note, however, from your profile that you're running a turbonator and several other serious upgrades so you'd better be careful

thanks for that John, not sure what power I'm running at present but its still on standard internals and an 18g with good supporting mods (https://www.scoobynet.com/projects-4...on-fettle.html if you are interested...), so perhaps 360 of each...until I hit the turbonater switch of course

Question

I've heard about that too Daz.

Somebody told me that there not much way in terms of a springing bias for the 3rd/ 4th plane, which would surely help? I know nothing about this stuff, but you'd think it would be a relatively easy thing to create a mod for? We need Matt and Olly or Mark at lateral or someone to come up with something, I'm sure there'd be a decent market for it. Perhaps a combined shortened 6 speed gearshift and better sprung quickshift...

Certainly better than blowing your 12k engine or one of Marty or Skull's 30+ jobs

Purposeful looking wagon that, My p1 was only about 340/310 but it had about 35,000 hard miles
