Project P1 600bhp +

[QUOTE=Fat Boy;8299162]About 370/380 ftlbs - 2 litre and RCM GT35 P20 hybrid turbo. The relatively low torque explains how my box has held together uuntil now ( although it's beginning to complain). based on those figures why did you have the p20 instead of the p18?
#212
I'm only talking about the torque levels there in response to Skullfudge's question - my car runs about 440-450bhp and 370/380ftlbs of torque - I haven't put it on a dyno so I don't have an exact quote, but the original engine owner did getting in the middle of the above, and Bob Rawle's Bum Dyno (patent applied for ) thought that it was around that level too
Clearly the P18 wouldn't be up to the job - the P20 shrouded port (which is the one I have) can deliver up to 480bhp at 2.1 bar, whereas the P18 is good for a max of 430 bhp. Matt and Olly chose the parts carefully to provide a balanced and appropriate set of kit - as ever.

I've heard about that too Daz.
Somebody told me that there not much way in terms of a springing bias for the 3rd/ 4th plane, which would surely help? I know nothing about this stuff, but you'd think it would be a relatively easy thing to create a mod for? We need Matt and Olly or Mark at lateral or someone to come up with something, I'm sure there'd be a decent market for it. Perhaps a combined shortened 6 speed gearshift and better sprung quickshift...
Certainly better than blowing your 12k engine or one of Marty or Skull's 30+ jobs

Bad News !
I've been speaking with Mark at RCM and I am not going to achieve the 600bhp
when the twisted kit is fitted. 580 - 590 has been suggested.
To achieve the Projects 600 will mean either twin mapping with a separate 10 Ltr tank for race fuel or NO2.
With 590bhp being so close to the Projects goal I have come to the realistic conclusion that I have a great car with ample power and that 700 or more would be bordering insane, so after much thought and talks with my wife I am having the nitrous
Olly was saying that using regular kits with a 50Bhp jet giving a further 80bhp would create a weak point in the engine namely the head gasket.
Knowing the engine had a weak point would be like knowing your tadger is going to drop off, but you don't know when !.......... so I am having the same system as "The Bitch", which is a headgasketless Gas O Ring system.
Olly & Matt just need to find the best way of running it through the M800.

My latest Engine isn't far off Skulls or Marty's sort of spec I've just managed to save on labour .
Mine's based on a closed deck 2.5 though.

Re the 6 speed problems. I personally have not had an issue with the change from 4th to 5th all year. However, the box i have now had low mileage. More importantly though, the linkage looked brand new, and the oem bushes were pretty stiff compared to slack/sloppy ones i have seen/fitted/used in the past.
Maybe something like the Kartboy bushes might be a cheap upgrade for those with iffy 6 speeds.
John (FB) will let you know next time i am down that way.

Cheers John...I think I'm going to go PPG and continue to go easy and sell the P1 box on, its only done about 4k and only 1500 of that at this spec. Better to sell it on while its still on one piece

Fatboy.. your spec may be different to to current equivalent but I bet you still give most a good run for their money.
Sounds a nice car. Any pics?
Be good for a few of us to meet around the Blackheath area one evening?

Daz.. nice looking motor mate.
I guess your occupation is related to auto. I do not have the knowledge to build
engines, and if I did I would not have the time that is required.

It gets about - to the distress of some big bikes and expensive italian/german cars
No recent pics as I'm in the process of refreshing it really so, being a sensible type, have done it all **** backwards - nutty engine first, then remembered about shot brakes, tired suspension, whiny gearbox and, last but not least ,tatty cosmetics - loads of P1 spoiler/ splitter stonechips, kerbed wheels, one cracked headlight, one cracked spotlight, two nicked prodrive wing badges (thank you sarf london *******). So all abit tired looking at the moment - new two piece discs en route to sort brake situation, pennies being put aside for 6 speed with dccd and exe-tc in the New Year , new lights, badges ready to be put on to be followed by respray etc.
Happy to meet up around Blackheath or somewhere in between all other locals like Sti baly Will send pms

Fatboy... muck fee, that was a funny description of your car lol. Your be a happy bunny when you get that EXE "under ya butt". That is serious fun.
Your getting there though, that's the main thing.
My brakes have bedded in now and are mad. If ever I picked up some ol' boy wearing a wig, I would find it very necessary to hammer the brakes at least once

When I had a nicely bedded in set of alcon/prodrive discs some years ago I remember taking out an mX5 driver as a passenger on a track day at Bedford GT circuit.
I was running full sticky slicks and DS3000 pads in the calipers on a nice hot day and I can recall him saying things like " Whoa, these are a bit nippy through the bends, aren't they? ha ha..."and other nice comments as we belted down the main straight, before he went quiet and then starting involuntarily stamping on an imaginary brake pedal a good 50m before I was even going to begin thinking about braking. When I finally stood on the brake, his specs flew off his face, out of his openface helmet and battered into the dashboard . At lunch I could hear saying things to his mates along the lines of "he's completely mad", "quick car" and "grips really well, but eff me when it brakes!!! Omigod, I nearly brought my liver up" We aim to please...
I like the calipers and am keeping them, it's just been the one piece rubbish discs that have been a pain - two piece AP Discs should sort that.

One occasion back fired on me. A diamond rep wanted a spin and when I launched it my sat nav left the dash holder and hit me square on the chin.
This is weird and has happened on 3 different ocassions now,(2 women and a 9 yr old boy).
When I floored it they all stretched their arms out in front of them???
Surely that's a natural instinct when braking hard isn't it?? not when accelerating ?.

LOL bra straps...mmmm if I ever hear a large "twang" I guess I will have no option but to quickly look to my immediate left

compared to a couple of you lot thinking of stripping the car now to rid some weight
