Project P1 600bhp +
11 Attachment(s)
Hi Everyone.
I guess some may be interested in my current project, so I will keep this thread updated for those interested. Purchased my car nearly 3 yrs ago. An original P1 that had been looked after and had modifications as picture below. HKS Induction - PACE f/m Inter cooler - Ali Radiator and was running at around 310 bhp. Attachment 50175 The car ran well with good handling due to newly fitted original Prodrive springs & dampers. After a year I wanted more power and after spending much time looking into the various companies I decided to go to Roger Clark Motorsport. Matt Clark designed and built the engine which took several months to complete but it was worth the wait. Attachment 50176 Here is the FULL list of engine details:- WRC 14mm Stud Conversion Hone Bore Clearance Block Face Skim Closed Deck Block Assembly RCM Omega forged high compression pistons Piston Ring Set WRC 14/12mm head stud kit 14mm Head Dowels RCM Port & Polish RH Cylinder Head Assembly LH Cylinder Head Assembly Oil Cooler Modine Oil Filter RCM WRC Nimonic Exhaust Valves RCM WRC Inlet Valves Half Moon Seal Subaru Crankshaft Assembly Crankshaft & Flywheel balance RCM uprated H section conrod ACL Racing bearing main Subaru Version 9 big end bearing kit Engine Gasket kit RCM modified Oil Pump Big wing Sump Big wing Sump modification Double Valve spring kit Double Valve spring spacers Uprated Thermostat RCM lightweight Flywheel AP Racing Clutch Kit Smooth Idler Water Pump Assembly Toothed Idler Timing belt tensioner kit Timing belt tensioner bracket Tensioner seal Tensioner Pulley Head Ream 14mm RCM Titanium Retainers Bucker shim LH Inner Cam belt cover RCM Vernier Timing Belt Pulleys Timing Belt Timing Belt Tensioner RCM Manifold Manifold fitting kit Rocket Cover gasket LH Rocket Cover gasket RH Spark Plug Gasket RCM Alloy Pulley Kit Sti Engine Mount LH Sti Engine Mount RH Modified Gearbox Mount RCM Oil catch tank RCM Oil catch tank fitting kit 850cc fuel injectors R.C.M. 3 inch S/ Steel Open Neck Downpipe R.C.M. 3 inch S/ Steel Centre Exhaust section R.C.M. 3 inch S/ Steel Rear Silencer R.C.M. The P1 in the picture below is not my car however the Intercooler in the same model. The car in the picture, RCM's Impreza "The Gobstopper" and my car basically have the same block and internals but are running at different specs. Attachment 50177 My engine is 800bhp + compatible however it's currently restricted to 420 - 430 bhp by the turbo. We need to make the car stronger so it will cope with 600bhp + when the twisted turbo is fitted in early 2009. My existing provdrive brakes have been sold and just had all new AP Racing brakes fitted at RCM. Fronts are 6 pot AP Racing on 355mm discs and rears are 4 pot on 320mm's Attachment 50178 Attachment 50179 Next up is new suspension being fitted in November. They are EXE TC with 40 adjustments available to all corners. Olly Clark was telling me that around 25ish for road and 30 - 35 for track days, hill climbs extra. Will be subject to conditions and locations. Attachment 50180 Dec / Jan will see a new 6 speed box with RCM internals?, Carbon prop, drive shafts and possible diff changes. Attachment 50181 The engine management (Motec 800M) was mapped by Dave Rowe of Motec. Anti Lag is enabled and Launch Control will be enabled when running at 600+. The new suspension should prove good as I lose traction on damp roads in 4th gear at the moment. It is my everyday car and although it's very quick it can be driven normally without any problem. When complete we are expecting the following performance stats:- 0 - 60mph & back to zero in under 6.0 seconds 0 - 100mph in 7: something? Here are a couple of odd pictures with the last picture being the most recent. Attachment 50182 Attachment 50183 Attachment 50184 Attachment 50185 Will keep this post updated. :thumb: |
Fantastic, amazing spec. :thumb:

Wow!
Have you won the lottery? |
Looks Like a Similar Spec to Marty's P1 also done by RCM.
I'm currently building a 600bhp V3 Type R with RCM parts. Mine is based on a 2.0L closed deck block that's been linered to become a 2.5 Closed deck block. I'm using RCMS WRC Rods, Omega Pistons and already have their rotated Turbo kit. Quality of their stuff is fantastic. Good luck with it :) |

His car is lovely. Your correct, RCM's parts, quality and general service is the best. Good luck with yours matey. Hopefully we may meet up one day somewhere ? Fudge |
How to empty your wallet of lots and lots and lots of cash :D
Which version garret will you be fitting ??? |

Not sure at the moment but it could be the Garret GT30/37 turbo with .82 exhaust housing

:wonder:, I have trouble with 460bhp in my P1 :) Matt done a great job fitting the APS Inter cooler. I only lost the two driving lights hence the light covers. I have not seen you in the P1 forum before mate??. It was good to hear that you were running at 460. Couple of questions:- Do you lose traction at all in the dry? what is your general mechanical grip like? and is yours RCM? Cheers Bighead |
Your going to need a gt35r as a minimum to come close to 600bhp

Thats the suff if the engine will take it then why not. Hats off to you great car keep us posted as it is nice to see that not all really fast subaru's are a firm's car.
|
what sort of price we looking at for this spec. pm if you would like to share
best of luck with car jim |
I think between the £20-30k mark ;)
|
Nearer £30K.
You got your car back yet Steve? Just worried about my lift on the 19th :norty: |

Very nice spec.
Do RCM do all the machining work for the engines in-house? |
What a beast, nice one skullfudge. I know how much i've just spent on mine to hit 400bhp, excellent work mate.
|
Skullfudge,
Awesome piece of machinery! :) Steve, roflol If yours didnt beat a piddly GT30 standard position turbo, I would drive yours in to a brick wall. ;) Thats like saying as long as my 911 turbo beats a boxter. :D Stick a GT35 on mine and then see what it does, as that would be a totally different story. Litcho's hybrid GT35 Type25 Race Car acheived 585bhp on pump fuel using my engine spec. ;) I await to see what my new GT30 does next week, when it is fitted. :D |
I'm look forward to seeing what yours does Shaun. Would be good bench mark for mine. I've posted on 22b hopefully you'll make it :)

Well....the engine will cope with it so why not. I have always wanted to keep the appearance of a P1 without modifying or removing sections off the front.

Cheers Bighead with 460bhp....my P1 will loose fraction in 1st, 2nd and third on my uk 6speeder gearbox with rcm carbon propshaft , my spec is very similar to yours (except i have supertech valvetrains and a MD321T turbo on a sti 2.5 with rcm forge internals ) I have whitline anti-roll bars (fr and rear) with alloy droplinks both ends also fitted whitelines anti lift kit on standard P1 suspenion I will say imho that 460+ bhp is wasted on a road going P1 ...as will not be able to use its to it max on the road as you can go just as quick with 400 as with 500+ on the road :) on track is a different story !! I am actually going down 2.35 route as I type this (for a stronger engine ) |
I know Marty's just about to have his engine mapped for race fuel, 125 OCTANE:thumb: These cars running over 500bhp must be scary on the road, that's going to be my next stage of mods:norty:
|
Shaun :)
MIne is only the baby gt35r as mine is only the .63housing so say 550bhp max |
