Default Cracking rear tyres

Are these ok?

Just noticed that the edges are cracking a little. The other 3 tyres are fine which makes me wonder if these are ok.

They look ok but from past experience I would keep your eyes on them. Had cracks on mine but were even worse then that. I was on the dual carrigeway and the tyre burst. You can probably work out what happened to the car after that.

Just to be on the safe side, check for the manufacture date, will be something like 05 (may) 10 (2010) (0510).

Good idea, thanks. Is there a rule as to how long a tyre is safe for?

5 years max I believe due to rubber deterioration.

iirc date code will be in the format DOT xxxx xxxx 3510 and the 3510 means 35th week of 2010.

its just ageing of the tyre . as above they have a 5 year deterioration , a bit like skin when left to the elements , they should be fine as its only surface cracks , some mot stations will pick up on it though

As above but like I said just be carefull because driving style, road conditions etc can make a difference. Just keep checking regularly. Tyres and brakes are important, two things that shouldn't be skimped on. I learnt my lesson the hard way.

Thanks guys, the car has done 27,000 miles and the tyres have a good amount of tread on them so I would imagine that they are the second set on them, making them around 2 years old. It is in the garage at the moment having some work done so wont know for sure for a few days but will check when I get it back.
