Default Recommend some good tyres...

Hi,

I am about 50% of the way through my Bridgestone RE70's (17" 40 profile) and wanted some recommendations for new tyres to cope with the current wet weather and more crap weather for most of next year.

The RE70's are great in the dry but a bit hairy in the wet (have had the car sliding in a four wheel drift a few times coming out of roundabouts) and I find the tramline quite bad when applying brakes or when winding up the DCCD to lock.

Also thinking to go up a profile to say 45 or 50 as I am finding the 40's a bit rough on anything but flat surfaces.

Thanks in advance,

Fz

My Vredestein Sessantas were fantastic in the wet today. I wouldn't have chanced the speed and cornering on my old Michelin PS2's.

I was just gonna suggest Vredesteins. Not used Sessanta's yet but the old UltraC's were superb wet or dry.

The 070's have very stiff side walls, and you may find other tyres of the same aspect ratio give a much smoother ride over the bumps.
Having said that, 40 is a pretty low profile and I've only ever had 45.
See if some one will let you have a go in their car (dealer?).

Vredesteins in the 40 profile have been fine for me, nice and smooth. You need to try different tyres as you say, the ride on a 45 profile on an Bridgestone RE050 isn't nearly as good as a 40 profile on a Mich PS2 for example.

I just got some GY F1 Asymetric (the are the new GSD3) Not quite as good as the GSD3 in standing water, but probably better all round, only thing is as EVO wrote they did seem to take a good 500 miles to "scrub in"

Just had some GY Eagle F1s fitted at the front (2003 WRX, standard set up) and overall seem ok.

However, if doing a 3 point turn in the wet, the inside tyres spins. Well, it judders a bit and then grips. The old cheapo tyres didn't do this, but I'm wondering if they still need to scrub in.

One other thing I've noticed is that they are a lot noisier and stiffer than the previous tyres, to the point where I thought I had a flat. Probably good for grip, but not great for conversations.

Ok, after a lengthy trawl though "search" a few months ago, the best wet weather tyres appear to be :

Toyo T1R
Michelin PS2
Goodyear Eagle F1
Vredestein UltraC

I have the Toyos, which are suberb in the wet, but you won't go wrong with any of these.
