F1's v SO3's
#1
I will shortly have to replace my Toyo T1's on my Sti 7. The above seem to be the primary choices - orginally I had wanted to fit S03's 'cause I don't believe they are as bad as they are made out to be. Has anyone driven both these types of tyre of 17"s and can therefore offer a real comparative opinion? I know Dave TS thinks well of the SO3's and has also driven the Toyos.

Check out SiPie's test of a couple of tyres (including SO3 and F1's) EVO MAGAZINE and JAP INNOVATIONS rate the new F1's. I'm getting some on my Legacy this weekend. I'll let you know. (16" alloys).

now i gotta dissagree here[just when you thought youd made your mind up about your tire chioce lol]
personally i think the so2 were great and the so3's are even better, yes they may tramline a bit[makes you feel alive lolol] but in wet and dry your stuck to the road like glue, look good to, no complaints so far, ive had toyos and dont rate em, they are just falkens under another name to me !!! mind i have never tired the goodyear f1 and they might be my next tire in another 10000 miles

Had both SO2 an SO3's and now running Eagle F1's ALL are bloody good tyres but I must say the F1's are a tad better (grippier) and cheaper.

I put F1`s on my car about 7000 miles ago, when I drove on them for the first time I wasn`t impressed and didn`t think that they were grippier than my narrower bridgestone SO`3s. But after some serious scrubbing in (about 1500-2000 miles!) they seemed a lot better. Recentely I took off the alloys with F1`s on, and put my old 16`s with bridgestones back on (took the alloys into the bathroom to clean them!!) I had the old tyres on for a few days, and jesus, what a difference, big understeer, the bridgestones are not as good as F1`s. I suppose thats when you notice the difference the most, when you swap from excellent tyres back to good ones. Having said that the bridgestones are still bloody good tyres, but not as good as f1`s IMHO. What the F1`s seem to need is loads of scrubbing in before they reach their best!

I have so3's on my my98 uk car and unless Imprezas tramline really bad with all tyres don't buy em mate,on smooth surfaces they're ok (as you would expect) but they are a positive ******* menace on longitudinaly uneven surfaces/white lines (and road crowns ,as i can't imagine imprezas do that as standard (lurch as crossing the crown) ) If all the handling problems of my car are down to the tyres[[IF]],then please don't buy 'em mate they border on dangerous SOMETIMES,and benign at others which is most offputting and annoying, the last thing you need on an 'enthusiastic' drive is looking ahead at the road surface and wondering if the tyres are gonna react in a way they really shouldn't, without warning,...not fun(they have had me shouting "******* tyres" at the top of my voice before,i **** you not )Edited to say mine are 16",but i wouldn't risk it mate....
