Red face

All,

Had a slow puncture and drove on it!!

Went to the garage and pumped it up (0 PSi) went to local Autospeed to have repaired and the tyre was ****ed. Tried getting two SO2s to replace the rear ones, and was told by ACL tech services that they all needed replacing. Expensive slow puncture!!!

Couldn't get SO2's anymore so had to get SO3's pulled out the garage and on light throttle had all four wheels spinning and had a intrim tank slapper up the road Are SO3's really that **** ?? Tiptoeing around at the moment!!! Got done by a purple Nova last night, as I have no confidence in the handling anymore..... The SO2's were great.

Cheers Phill C

PS Lucky sideways gets three SO2's that are two months old, and in perfect condition!!

babber, stick with the SO-3's.
My last 3 sets of SO-2's have all only come into their own after 800 miles or so. Before they've worn in it's like driving a boat.
I've only put 250 miles on my new SO-3's, but already they seem better than new.

As Mike says, any new tyre is like a vaselined eel on polythene until it wears the mould release agents off and scrubs in.

I am 4000 miles or so into a set of S03's (18's) and they just get better, particularly in the wet. Did a Brands track day on them in a monsoon, plus Prodrive Live last week, another monsoon, and the grip was excellent.

Babber,..are you driving at the moment on 2 S02's and 2 S03's or did you replaced ALL four into S03's !

I've seen a car with S02 on the front and S03 at the rear,....it was a very unpredictable car with that setup,....He crashed almost 2 times, ...he quickly changed into 4 S03's and the car was in balance again...less grip than with S02's on all corners..but that's known already !

You have to get used to the S03's when you have driven the S02 for a while,...but they are also sticky in almost every circumstances ...also on dry !!

Thumbs up

Yep! Takes a while to get to the grippy stuff - just be bloody careful until you do m8 (it's like another running in of the car from new ).

Another point often forgotten is that these need more air than the older version. I run f35psi/r32psi in 215/45-17s on the road, and a whole lot more on track days.

Cheers

Had all four replaced and have three with very good tread!!

So the SO3's aren't as good, great Why replace a fantastic tyre with another one that isn't as good ??? I really don't understand.

With the SO2's I used to be able to steer the car with the throttle, in the wet, and used to lift off and get the car unsettled for a laugh SO2's gripped like **** to a blanket

Oh and tyre pressures, I used to run with 34 on the front and 30 on the rear. What is recommended now ?

Cheers a pissed off Phill C

Edited to say I didn't read the tyre pressure correctly from the post above.

Phil
There is a school of thought on this BBS that says S03 are no good/inferior to S02, at least in smaller diameters.

I don't go with that in 18".

Have *actual* experience of the following tyres on the four Imprezas we have owned:

RE010 in 16"
RE011 in 17"
Pzero rosso in 18"
Toyo T1-s in 18"
S02 in 17"
S03 in 18"

And that's the order of tyre I rate them in (ignoring diameter).

It seems to be fashionable on here to knock them, then everybody joins in, even those that have not actually used them!

Only listen to the comments of those that have actually put miles on them.....

Dave,

Appreciate your views. So you rate the SO3s over the SO2s ? I'm running 16 inch wheels at the moment, with no plans to change.

What tyre pressure will work on the SO3s (16) ? I ran the SO2s with 34PSi front and 30 PSi rear. Amazing the difference a few PSi can make

Cheers Phill C
