If you want to do this then:

- use the engine loom from the MY99/00 engine
- rework it to use the multiway plugs from the MY97/98 engine loom
- most things will pin straight over (injectors, TPS, knock, cam, crank, coolant temp) but idle control and ignition will need some messing around (single wire idle on MY97/98 to 4 wire stepper motor on MY99/00, and I would go with newage coil packs if that's not already done and bridge out the ignition amplifier)
- 100% use an aftermarket ECU so it can be calibrated to suit the different things - a PnP type will connect to the vehicle loom no problem, but you need to make sure you check spare I/O for the idle requirements. Syvecs can do it without issue, G4+ probably but may need to access internal expansion headers for additional I/O

Have I done this? No - but have done many many MY01-on transplants into classics using the above methodology, and 1x MY93->MY97, but not this particular conversion. But it is totally do-able.
