Default 98 ej207?

hey. i went to motor factors today to get ht leads for my 98 impreza typr-r. i gave them year and told them it was a import type-r. they gave me leads that are a female connection on them. mine has male connectors. after lookin on net, ive noticed alot hav the female connection and the distributor is in the centre of the engine. mine sits to the passenger side of engine. i looked at the engine details and it says ej207. is this the correct engine for at 98? checked engine on net n it mentions it for 99-00 type-r's.is this rite and they hav just gave me wrong leads or has something been switched on car? havent got head round subaru engines yet as quite nu to them but if anyone could advise it would be big help.

thanks
sean

You have the MY99 motor with the offset coilpack. This MY ran from Sep 1998 to Aug 1999.

You DO need to make sure you get the correct leads for the MY99.... because the previous MY98 (Sep 97 - Aug 98) has the pack in the centre and the leads are different.

Sounds like you are mixing up the model year from the year of first use - they are often not the same.

An EJ207 would not be correct for a 98MY, no. However, the 1999MY cars went into production in September '98 so you could easily have a 99MY car that was first registered in '98.

It sounds from what you've said that you have an early '99MY STi Version 5, and under those circumstances, EJ207 would be the correct engine type, and as Joz says, you will need the correct ignition leads - for a 99/2000MY car.
