I Am A Muppet!!!
#1
At the recent Autocar trackday, CK1 was suffering from an unidentified noise that appeared to be coming from the turbo. Impending failure I presumed, but continued to drive.
The following day the noise went, but I got Elvis at TN to adjust my actuator as there was a fair bit of play in it. He did so, and the car was peaking and holding 16psi instead of peaking 17 and holding 15, lovely jubbly. No furhter re-adjustment required.
The following day as I was driving down the M45, my car lost power and was making funny whooshing noises, so I just presumed the turbo had finally given up the ghost . I nursed the car to Coventry and then back home.
I spoke to Pete at Scoobysport and arranged to take CK1 down the following day to get a turbo fitted. So I did. However, when I got there Steve asked me if I was sure the turbo had gone.
"Why?" I replied.
"Because one of your intercooler hoses has come off".
"DOH!"
What a muppet!
I had removed the i/c to take-off the heatshield on the turbo, and had forgotten to tighten up one of the clips.
So I ended up getting the car serviced ready for The Ring, and spending silly amounts of money on some wax that I swore I'd never buy!
Ho Hum....
When it was sorted, the car was boosting like a trooper. 20psi anyone?
So the actautor was wound back to where it was in the first place and now the car feels faster than it ever has.
Thanks to everyone at SS for not taking the pee out of me too much!
Roll on The Ring...
Stef.

What a plonker!!!!
Serious post time!!!!!
If you adjusted the actuator to compensate for an air leak in the presurised system then you will have been overspeeding the turbo to make it give you your 16PSI.
Dont be surprised if your turbo blows soon m8!!
If you can **** it, get a spare turbo off pete and bring it with you to the ring, if it blows i'll help you swap it over, if it doesnt just return it to pete.
Be a huge shame to go all that way and suffer a turbo failure on your first run.
What a bunch of knobbers.
