Default A few words of wisdom, please?

Hello folks..

It's taken me.. oo.. approximately two weeks to decide I do want to slightly modify my 2.0r Sport. I think that's the effect Scoobynet has on me! I weighed up whether it was worth just waiting for a WRX.. but hey.. some light modding can't hurt?

My first call is headers.. yep, I want the rumble. Now I know I have to fit unequal length ones and I've exhausted threads on here and ImprezaSport.net so I thought I'd just plain old ask. I have no idea what I'm looking for and know.. not a lot about cars. I was looking at these, will these do?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Subaru-Imp...ht_1963wt_1199

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUBARU-WRX...2#ht_789wt_905

I've heard some problems with fitting them to 2006 Hawkeye sports, does anyone know how much of a nightmare it is? Would it be better to get a whole exhaust system? Or maybe the headers off a 2006 WRX? So many questions I can't find the answers to! Any help would be fantastically appreciated and I'll do the decent thing and document my progress in videos/audio!

Thanks!

Aha! Another spanner in the works. Apparently they're a good place to get Borla replicas?! I don't know! Haha. Ahh dear. Can't find any specifically marked as "Borla replicas" so any help or exact links to what I want on trusted sites would be fantastic. Can anyone help the nooby?

As above stay away from these headers, stick with yours until you are going for bigger power(above 400bhp) and then have look for GT Spec.if you want better headers contact here Harvey for his Ported headers with Up pipe.

the gains to be had for moding a sport is modest to say the least, save the coin and put it in the scooby bank every1 who owns a turbo needs to have. Will benefit you in the long run

Yeah... I assume with the 400bhp you don't mean on my current.. non-turbo car I presume? haha. I know I'd never get that in a million years, nor am I trying. But yes, thanks for the advice .

I've sent a little message to Cobra Sport on here, I'll emailed them too from their website if I don't get a reply. All I can see on their website is the middle section and the tailpipe bit with box? Sorry if I sound like I don't know what I'm talking about.. it's in my head but words are difficult.

I realise this, yeah, I'm not looking for performance.. power.. or anything. I just want to create my own, personalised sport while I can afford it (20 years old, no bills to pay or anything) and a chance to learn about cars at the same time. Thanks for the advice, but I'll save up for that when I want have.. less fun .

i relise where your coming from, when i was 18 i owned a cavalier sri and god knows how much money i wasted on that making it faster than the escorts rs turbos of the day, always wanted a cosworth but well outta range, in hindsight that money couldve been put aside and wouldve got a much better car earlier.
Anyways enjoy the car youve got , because if they were around when i was 18, i wouldnt mind it either

Pretty sure this middle pipe and backbox have fitted SwissTony and have really nice sound this setup

About this performance on non turbo, its little bit harder like on turbo version, but still with this backbox you will have nice sound, which be similar to Turbo version.

Ah yes, I saw that thread. Did look and sound really nice. I'd like to hear some idle sound too, just to make sure the rumble is there. Sounds very nice though. Also his is a classic, mine's a Hawkeye. From what I've been reading it seems harder to get it on the Hawkeye! But I'm at a bit of a loss, thanks for your help

Send harvey a pm i'm sure he will know the answer to your question about fitting.

just contact one of the breakers on here and get a set of standard headers off a turbo car.

And for those telling him not to mod a non turbo.

He is 20, and it will be a few years before his insurance gets anything like sensible.

I understand that but i still wouldn't mod a sport, or for that matter even buy one. Each to their own as i'm sure the op wouldn't have taken my route through the car world

Thats not nice

Some people just want any scooby because they love them.

FYI i would not buy a sport either, but only because if i need 4 wheel drive i would get a 4x4 as thats the only reason to buy a sport for me.

As a young lad these days id have a clio 182 or something rear wheel drive all day long... but thats just me

Cheers, I'll contact Harvey, Is that his username?

That's exactly why I'm doing it, I've got years until I can afford the insurance, so I'm going to have fun now, while I'm young. I got a sport because I've liked Impreza's since I was a kid. I needed a new car and didn't fancy the common as muck Corsa, Saxo or Clio. I wanted something different and to get into the scooby world quicker! It's fast enough for me right now, I'd just like it to sound better, hence the thread. Cheers guys

Hey mate, I'm in very much the similar situation, a fellow sport owner, got mine just before I was 22, had it 10 months...

Have asked for help a few times, and have got similar responses, may make a little interesting reading for you!

https://www.scoobynet.com/general-te...ow-please.html

Stick with modding the sport for the fun that you'll have doing it!

No one else seems to understand theres no fun in putting money in the bank and saving for a turbo when your still young and have a standard scooby to play with, you wanna play with your standard scooby and enhance it make it better in ways that you can with the money you have atm! as you said, spending money on a turbo will happen when Insurance companies let us for not stupid money!

ride on mate!

Yes, harvey is his user name.

And i understand exactly where your coming from regards the common as muck thing, scoobys are and the sound is where its at.

Get yourself a 3inch exhaust and a sti panel filter and that should release a few more ponies and the sound, get some handling mods, arb and drop links as well as the all important geo set up and leave it at that.

I'm glad you do understand thats cool , and fair enough bout the clio 182, but, out of interest, not that it really matters, coz we're all here coz we like scoobys, but which is cheaper to insure, the 182 or a sport? coz insurance cost is the other thing holding us back from the turbo, so if a clio 182 would cream a sport but would be more expensive to insure then its out the question like a turbo anyway ?

Same question as Jase but with one extra..

Where in my post did I mention a racetrack? I couldn't give a toss who I could cream. He might cream me, but at the end of the day he has a Clio. And to me, that's where he loses.

Edit: Jase, I'm going to PM you on my lunch break, it seems we do have similar thoughts!

completely agree with you mate!
We'd have turbo's if we can, but we can't afford to insure them, so the next best thing is a sport, It's still a scooby, just no turbo, less powerful and a few other things im sure (before I'm told lol)!
but the outside shell is still an impreza and to a certain degree you can still make it sound like one!!

8 week lead time and 345 quid from Cobra Sport! And apparently very difficult to fit. Hmph. Still fancy it.

Does anyone know of headers off the same year WRX would fit? Thanks.

They may fit the heads but not sure where they join up to the up-pipe? Maybe if they fit the heads you could also get a system off a turbo and then get a pipe fabricated to join the headers/manifold to the rest of the system. You can always pick up the headers second hand off here and test fit, if they don't fit then you can sell on. Have you not tried the US for headers - may get more choice from there?

Ayde.

This sounds like a whole lot of work! Should be worth it though.. I think. I know nothing about cars at all, so what you said made sense but with some jibberish. Fix a PC? No problem. Fit a manifold? Yikes. I'd rather avoid the American route if at all possible, shipping nightmares and such.

Alright then lads, you win. Just done a quote on a 2003 blobeye WRX and it came out at 1700 for next year. I figure a specialist insurer who recognises my one year of driving a hawkeye sport might even bring it down more. Let's hope insurance doesn't hike too much in that time!

arkynsei, a word to the wise from somebody who has the same car as you and has been down exactly the same road as u are looking at goin.
the frt part of the exhaust system is totally differnet to a wrx version of the hawkeye's and not many companies do a stainless steel downpipe's unless you want to part with £1000. the borla's on ebay wont fit the hawkeye.
just put a stainless steel cat back pipe and exhaust on it, put in an upgraded panel filter (green, k&n, cosworth) stick on some nicer wheels (if u dont like the sport ones) u can normaly get a set of wrx hawk ones for £250 and upgrade the anti-roll bars and droplinks (not forgetting to notify ur insurance of every mod you do) and then save till ur 25 and buy yourself a wrx or sti.
age is a major factor unfortunatly for yourself but not in my case (im 37)
enjoy the car u currently have build up ur no claims discount and get some pictures up
