Question

I know there are a lot of Scoob tech-heads out there and I would appreciate your wisdom ....
Anybody got recommendations for a domain registration, web hosting and email(and forwarding) service for personal/small business use?
I don't want (I think!) any 'free' ones as they seem to blast ads at you. I want a no ad site....

Please also mention anybody to avoid if you can.
Thanks

Don't use webfusion !

Do use IT-WorldWide (http://www.itww.net)

unbelievably quick new server on a new 4MB line..this is where the 22b bbs (http://bbs.22b.com) is at now.

Steve @ IT-WorldWide knows his stuff inside out and a few scooby owners use him.

I'll stick with the LINUX or UNIX ones thanks very much.. No offence whatsoever intended to you Simon!
Any way they can't get their prices sorted £195 for an additional POP3 acc! or is it a HTML error! ....

Er it says 10 pounds for additional POP3 accounts ?

And this BBS is hosted on a lowly NT server Linus/Unix sounds a bit elitist to me

Thumbs up

Oh! Sorry, I didn't mean to be elitist but I am definately cynical of MS .. sorry just my personal opinion! I've been pressing buttons on various computers on and off over the years since 1979! I've been using Linux for 3 or 4 years now (i cant remember) and it is really the best I've seen out of many different machines/os's We have a Linux machine here thats been up for 165days+ ... ie ..working away with NO reboot...

What was the reason for the BBS being down a wee while ago...?
As for the Html it seems that the page in question is ok on your browser but not mine!! Oh dear and thats Netscape 4.72 for Linux (shoosh) oh dear.... I think PC's price list was the same (offset)

Anyway thanks again for the hosting ideas.. ta .. and the BBS is EXCELLENT and has brilliant humour, advise, adminstrators, etc ,etc
Speak tomorrow..

myself and Steve (ITWW) looked at various ideas and implementations. We decided, that since the BBS is a perl/cgi application it would be best situated on a Linux server. We are both unbiased since we build/maintain both PC/NT/UNIX boxes..you do get some people who swear by either platform..well, we just think its horses for courses.

For ease of data access though we also have an NT server running coldfusion. You can't beat the ease of dumping an access database on the disk and opening up a connection..pi55 easy.

For the big stuff my choice would be a Sun SPARC running Oracle/Apache/Coldfusion but I've priced it up at 18K LOL

oh, Steve has a modded MY95 and I've a modded MY99 - all scoob nuts here !
