Track day car
Hi people, I have recently decided to take my 02 WRX on the track. I know every body says that the standard breaks and anti roll bars are rubbish so can anybody advise the best mods to start with so that I can enjoy the day to the full?

Better brakes,Brembo if you find cheap with DS2500 pads or Performance Friction pads,ARB's(Rear one will be at least need),Solid droplinks(CDF or Whiteline droplinks),get car checked before the track day in Subaru Specialist.
ARB:22mm Whiteline,Eibach etc.
Droplinks: Whiteline or CDF
Disc and pads if you want use old one:Performance Friction pads and discs
Jura

If you are just taking it on track, simply check all the levels and don't chase someone who knows what they are doing !
dunx
P.S. If you enjoy it... then start upgrading the suspension and brakes.

Sort the handling out first. ARB's, ALK, drop links, bushes, coilovers.
Having a car that handles well will often make you quicker than more powerful cars that are set up right. Also cheaper than increasing power. Decent brakes would be second stage the power.
IMO of course.

I'm with dunx. No point in spending loads of money before you even know if you like it or not.
A standard bug eye should be fairly decent anyway, as long as you don't stay out at track too long at a time.
If you really must spend money, then you could probably do a lot worse than changing the brake pads to something like the bluestuff ndx compound and changing your brake fluid for some fresh 5.1. I use halfords 5.1 fluid and I have not had any problems with it.
Godspeedbrakes should have the ndx pads in stock, but honestly if it's your first day, I wouldn't bother.
One thing that will be worth doing is making sure you've got reasonably fresh oil.

Dunx speaks sence, ive been out on track a few times in my stock 05 STi and its fine. Just have to be wary after you've been out about 10 mins as the standard pads really arn't up to much atall!
Some of the fastest cars i see out on track are old beaters with not alot done to them, the difference is all in the driver.
You see people turn up clearly having spent a fortune but with no idea how to drive the thing.
I just always think of the old saying "all the gear and no idea"

You can still build a descent track car with as said uprated brakes, drop links,ARB's its all down to the individual ,im best part into 12k and still not there but when im done its been done right and have enjoyed every minute in building my own car

My wisdom comes from enjoying mine on rally stages and a rallycross circuit.
I'm under no illusion that the car is suitable for track use at a race circuit.
Having said that EVERY mod that made my car faster on track made it a more enjoyable toy on the road. At the expense of comfort it must be said.
dunx
P.S. It's easy to thrash a £1K 205 GTI, as you have little to lose, a £10K STI is a bit different !

Too many people think they have to do stuff to their cars to be worthy of a trackday which is bollocks

Actually driving it will let him know ! I'm a car enthusiast, but I don't want a stripped out track car I like my aircon, MP3, and sat nav too much

P.S. Funniest thing I've seen is a fool in a Porsche Turbo driving it like a pillock and complaining of chronic understeer, "All the gear, no idea !"

To the OP yes an adjustable rear ARB ( e.g. 22mm Whiteline) with drop-links will really help your WRX on the road and track.
dunx
P.S. Best value mod on my car ! And "KojaK" has one on his WRX and he's happy !

Post number 6 is a good starting point
I'm probably not the best person to post as I've never tracked my car but I've been round a track in a fellow members Skoda as a passenger and had a whale of a time.....in a Skoda
