Default Hawkeye making whistling noise??!

Car was serviced last week and I had a Walbro fuel pump fitted at the same time. Drove the car home, fine. Drove it the next day and it was normal.

This morning I filled it up with some V-Power, and immediately afterwards began noticing a whistling sound (like its sucking air) when the car was under load.

The whistling noise becomes noticeable at 2.5k revs and as you rev it more it becomes more "tinny" sounding or whiny.

This only seems to happen when the car is in gear, and appears to be coming from the driver side, somewhere around the vent area.

Any ideas what this may be?

With the noise starting after I filled up with petrol I initially thought that it may have something to do with the Walbro as I've read how they can be noisy and a bit whiny, but that seems to be when the car is stationary, and also the noise comes from the back.

I had a decat downpipe fitted this morning, however, the whistling/air sucking noise was there before I changed it over.

I used to get more of a metallic turbo chatter/whistle with a more audible whoosh from my 2003 STI when I fitted a decat downpipe.... is it maybe the wastegate working harder?

Difficult to say wether it is a leaking exhaust d/p to turbo or boost leak. Have you a boost gauge?
Either way as you have fitted the decat, then the car should have a map tweak which should reveal the problem if there is one.

Thing is the noise was there before the decat downpipe was fitted, so doubt it's that.

The boost gauge shows the car to be holding boost, but to be honest I've not been driving it more than 3k today since I had the downpipe fitted.

Thing is, it's going in for a map on Thursday and I wasn't sure whether to get the problem looked at, or whether the mapper will be able to diagnose the problem.

Have you checked the air filter box & pipe connections?

Mine has popped off a number of times, I've had to replace it with a zero sports pipe now.

All seems to be in place.

So anyone know if it'll be safe to map and then if problem is not sorted through map to get it done afterward?

Depends on what it is DOM

If as you say the car is holding boost and running well even with this additional noise then he may be fine... but if you have any kind of boost leak or fluctuating air feed due to a split pipe then he'll not be able to map it well at all...
