Question

Guys+Gals,
LRP Petrol is much easier to get in my area then SUL.The LRP is also rated at 97RON same as SUL.Can I run my scooby on it without any disadvantages and with all the advantages or SUL.
P.s. Feel free to tell me if this is a stupid question. The LRP is also slightly cheaper than SUL.

I think if you put lead replacement fuel in you car it will ruin the cat in the exhaust
providing your running a cat.Stick to super 97 ron and you wont go wrong.I also use a can of millers octane booster on every fill up(but i do have a sti) bye bye

There can be problems with LRP clogging up the fuel system. As said above it MUST NOT be used with a cat. It is not made to any British Standard so manufacturers can put what they like in. When it was first used in Sweden over ten years ago it caused turbo failures due to the base additive (I think potassium or sodium) adhering to the turbine vanes. The additive in UK may be OK but I personally would avoid LRP and stay with SUL. If your car is supposed to have a cat (which say you have removed) then it will have a narrow gauge filler pipe and this would prevent you from putting in an LRP nozzle into the filler. DL

Even if your Scoob is de-catted LRP will kill the Lambda probe (oxygen sensor) in the downpipe. So it's a NO.

As David Lock has said there is no BS for LRP, so different petrol companies could use different additives which might not mix well. This means that you could be restricted to one manufacturer.

I assume that you do not have a Sainsburys near to you. Mine is selling superunleaded at 77.9p per litre ( with a 4p shopping voucher).

I would not risk it.

The Sodium based additive in LRP is not turbo friendly either. Expect to be fitting a new unit at great expense if you use LRP. You have been warned! (I wouldn't even put it in my lawnmower
