Newbie advice-Type R
Hi...I've been wondering what the rev limit is on my Type R? i lost traction last nite in first gear and hit roughly i think 8k rpm...I thought this a bit excessive never mind dangerous for a standard engine...surely the Type R engine couldnt stick that sort of abuse? Normally when I'm going for a blast I change at 6500-7000rpm as I didnt think there would be much point going over that.

Every STI from a v3 onward revs to 8k rpm (except the 2.5's) so its normal, they have uprated internals over the normal cars.
you have to be careful with the V5/6 cars anyway, if you dont know why then i would ask

They suffer from MAF sensor issues, are sensitive to the type of fuel that is used (JDM STI MY99/00 cars are mapped for 100 ron fuel) also due to the map having a lean spot in it towards the top of the rev range (this is why you see lots of P1's with engine rebuilds as they use the same map), and a few other minor niggles, but the above are the most common issues and if not delt with cause engine failures (the engines are still pretty strong though if they are running ok )
