engine management light on
im just wondering if anyone could help. my management light came on so i got it put on the machine and the diagnostic said there was a missfire on cylinder 2 so i got the plugs changed. the light came back on with the same diagnostic result cylinder 2 missfire so i got the injector swaped over to rule that out and it still came back with the same problem on cylinder 2. i then got a new coil pack put on got the engine light knocked off and within 2 days the light has come back on. the car is a wrx sti type uk 02 but it has been remaped. any suggestions thanks latchy

Mate, dont know if its any help to you. i used to have a 02 WRX, reg Nv51xjd.
It done the same thing,(usually in 4th or 5th ) had MAF changed under warranty, kept comng on till the dealer suggested fitting a nuetral position switch(Fu*k knows what it does though).
That totally cured it and it never came back no matter how much i beasted that car.lol
Just my tuppence, dont know if it will help you, hope so and it was only £45.

I will answer as no one else seems to want to help, fitted at dealers mate, however i still do not actually know what it does, it did cure mine though.
Would be a travesty if thats all that is all that was wrong and you got all the other stuff changed.
Keep us informed.

yes i think it is but i also think that when you change gear it somehow
(might be wrong here as i only know it cured mine) reduces the initial load on the Engine or Gearbox thus stopping overload on the engine.
I COULD AND ARE PROBABLY WRONG, HOPEFULLY SOMEONE WILL COME ALONG SOON AND EXPLAIN IT FULLY.
Link below might help explain it, goobledygook to me,lol
EcuTek Forums - Neutral Position Switch - looking for info

I had a similar issue, and it turned out to be the nuetral position switch. Apparently it can trigger incorrectly when going fast or on bumpy roads, and will report an incorrect misfire when on diagnostics.
The part only costs about £35 from a dealer, not sure how much for fitting. It's a common problem with bugeyes I believe.
A decent dealer or specialist should be able to tell you for sure. Where are you based?

I had the same problem on my 02 WRX and ended up being the plug that connects the coil packs wasn't very clever and had dirt in. Cleaned it up and "touch wood" never has gone wrong since! The car got a new set of spark plugs anyways! lol
My advice would be to clean up all connections and make sure there are no breaks in the wires or sharp bends.
Good to see the other advice above for future reference!
