Default Help threaded bolt on engine block..

Hey guys,

Need some urgent help. Was transfering my gauges from my WRX to my new STi, and I've managed to destroy the threads on the block, above piston 3, where you tap the oil temperature gauge to. Can I get one of those kits which rethread the hole but a size up, and then use an adapter? Or is this completely not advisable on an engine..

Regards,

ScoobyDoo69

Dazzler is right, swarf is bad. depends how careful you are, if you are gonna do it in place the only other is to push light grease or even vaseline in the hole to catch the swarf, then use the oil pressure to push it out. You should be able to get an 1/8bsp helicoil set, atleast i think that's the size?

Yeah I was going to put a lining of something down there, my dad is under the impression that they do the kits which pushes all the swarf right out ?

Which thread have you mullered? the 1/8 NPT or the M18 x 1.5? If its the former then surely there must be a way of getting the adaptor out?
